Summer Funeral

What can I wear? I have very few clothes, tend to wear jeans but obviously can't wear jeans to a funeral. No sure whether to go for a dress/jacket combo or trouser suit.

I'm 5' 4", size 12 bottom half and ten on top. I'm 50 so don't want to look mutton but not a frump either.

Help please!

I think you can wear either a dress or trousers. For me, it's all about being respectful. I went to a funeral at the height of the summer last year, and wore a black sleeveless (but not in any way strappy) dress, with a sort of wrap over shape. I took a cardigan because it was cold in the crematorium.

Do you have anything you could wear in your wardrobe? It doesn't have to be black, any dark colour will be fine.

Thanks for replying, I'm off to the shops tomorrow to have a look.

Will have to buy something as have nothing suitable at all.
I'm not a dress person so will end up with trousers, I suppose.

I wore a plain navy knee length dress to a summer funeral once. I think anything reasonably smart and plain in a dark colour would be fine. If you prefer trousers then black trousers with a top you would wear again would work, as long as the top isn't revealing

I'm going to a funeral next week and have been wondering the same thing as most of my more funereal clothes are wintry. I'll probably wear either a pencil skirt or wide legged trousers with a long sleeved shirt, most likely in navy, brown or grey as I have very little black. I think the main thing is not to stand out. Also, as BatshitCrazyWoman (great name!) says, crematoriums or churches are often cold so you probably need sleeves at least.

I hope you find something and don't have to spend too much.

I have the same dilema. I have opted for a Phase eight dress which actually has a dippy hem it is black however when teamed with a waterfall cardigan its ok. The front bit is over my knees. To break up the black i am adding a silk scarf.
I only have casual 3/4 summer trousers or pale wide linen ones. My summer skirts are very casual or I have maxi dresses .So I diddn't have much choice.
What about thise skirts that have a wide waistband ( soft) that are longish , wear with a simple plain t shirt and a cardigan or jacket. Then they can be used again or worn as a dress as the waistband goes over your boobs !!!!!!

I managed to get a lovely dress with matching jacket. I'm not a dress person, but tried this one and went for it.

The funeral was today; gorgeous sunny day - too nice to be saying Goodbye to someone Sad. All went well and I'm glad it's all over now.
