Waterproof Parka needed....

Wise women of S&B....after getting soaked while walking yesterday I have decides I need a waterproof parka that can be worn as we go into Autumn and through the winter. I've never owned one before and have no idea where to start! Anyone bought a fab one recently that you'd recommend?

I'm very happy with one I just found in TK maxx. It's a label called sosjensen and I got it for £60. It's super waterproof and breathable. Can't believe how hard it is to find an actual waterproof coat.

Anyone tried Sea salt? They've got some good looking waterproof coats although I've never heard of the brand before.

Seasalt jackets are great. Very waterproof and they do some lightly padded ones that are nice when it's not cold enough for a winter coat but a bit too chilly for just a thin jacket. They last well and are well-made. They are heavier than a waterproof "outdoorsy" jacket from the likes of Berghaus, Craghoppers etc but great for everyday wear / walking the dog.

I've bought this one and love it. It's very flattering and a good length.

Didrikson

Maomoo · 15/08/2014 15:36

Like the TK Max one...thanks Primal. I didnt know they had an online store. Could be dangerous.

I have an old waxed French Connection one and it is great. Not sure if they still sell them but they sometimes appear on E Bay.

Marmaladecat1 · 15/08/2014 15:45

Are they warm enough? I need a waterproof warm one the impossible dream

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2014 15:46

Do you want seriously waterproof, mountaineering style?
Or fashiony stylish style which may be a bit less waterproof?

LightastheBreeze · 15/08/2014 15:55

I've got a Merrell Wakefield, 'tis very good. The newer version is the Ellenwood

I love my north face arctic parka, though it's cold autumn/winter weight, so not really suitable for summer

SunshineOutdoors · 15/08/2014 19:49

Just be aware that the tk maxx one linked says it's water resistant, not water proof. Is quite an important distinction I think.

Marmaladecat1 · 15/08/2014 19:51

I really want the north face one...I need to man up to the price and justify it by knowing I'll wear it all winter.

Lagoonablue · 15/08/2014 19:51

I second the Seasalt ones. They are waterproof and quite warm, though only autumn warm. For winter I switch to a waterproof down coat.

Marmaladecat1 · 15/08/2014 19:53

red I'm a small 10 should I get xs or s?

SunshineOutdoors · 15/08/2014 19:55

this is the one I got . It is properly waterproof (3000mm, fabric is considered waterproof at 1500mm I think), also breathable so you don't get dead sweaty in it. Not sure I completely believe the rrp but it's still a great bargain.

SunshineOutdoors · 15/08/2014 19:57

The knitted collar is detachable btw

PrimalLass · 15/08/2014 22:10

I have a Merrell one for winter but it is far too warm for September/October.

FreeButtonBee · 15/08/2014 22:18

I have a sea salt one. Looks fine in town, and at the beach/out walking. They come up big though. I like the fact it has a dipped hem which makes it slightly less dull. Not warm but fine with layers/scarf. I have an aigle down coat for full winter

Marmaladecat1 · 15/08/2014 22:51

I'm sold on the merrell one I think.
Are we too early for the shops or am I behind with the times?

bishboschone · 16/08/2014 08:28

I bought a Didrikson last year . It's pretty amazing . They make thick versions to keep you warm too. I preferred the shape to north face .

Shia · 16/08/2014 09:23

I've now bought another Didriksons. The Thelma. It's beautiful.

Fife country for best price.

Damn it, you are right. I didn't notice. Will have to double check.

Paddingtonthebear · 18/08/2014 08:39

I've got this. It is so warm, too hot for autumn but you won't even need a jumper underneath in winter. The only "leaks" I've had have been around the elbow area, only in heavy rain though. They are great coats
