Spots from ingrowing hairs

I wondered if you can always see the spots caused by an ingrowing hair or sometimes can you just tell because the area is sore? Also do you always see the hair or is it trapped under the skin?

You might have ingrown hair but you might have hidradenitis suppurativa, in this case no hair will be visible - don't be surprised if your GP has no idea what it is and don't take loads of antibiotics to fix it they won't help!

Any ideas how to deal with these or will they just go away on their own?
