No, waxing is way worse. Ears throb a little bit but a couple of paracetamol does the trick.

Do it!

Dontgotosleep · 09/08/2014 23:03

Thanks tea. You've given me some confidence. I really want them done. D.D is going to come in with me. You'd think I was going in to have a baby. I'm getting my bleedin ears pierced. T.G. I can only give birth by c/section. Imagine me in labour.

It's all relative. If it's just the lobes, it just feels like a hard pinch which lasts a second.

The other bits of your ear ie helix etc, do hurt a bit more, and because they use a syringe rather than a gun, the process isn't as quick.

Sometimes the anticipation can be worse than the actual event.

Floop · 09/08/2014 23:14

Barely a scratch, honestly!

The actually piercing is barely anything at all, but they might burn a little bit after. Only like an itchy insect bite though, nothing you've not experienced before and be able to ignore with is.

Floop · 09/08/2014 23:15

ease* not is!

Oly4 · 09/08/2014 23:24

Take paracetamol about 20 mins before you go in. That will take the edge off it. But it's not that bad anyway

WeAreAllStarDust · 09/08/2014 23:24

I don't have my ears pierced but I get my eyebrows waxed regularly and I love it! It's all over in a jiffy!

bigTillyMint · 09/08/2014 23:28

It doesnt hurt as much as/any more than waxing eyebrows IIRC!

MamaPain · 09/08/2014 23:54

My memory from having my recent ones done and what my DD said is that the actual piercing is so quick it doesn't hurt. Afterwards, the piercings felt hot and a bit sore, but definitely no more than waxing. I put some cold cotton wool on them and then went to sleep, may have been a little bruised the next day if touched but certainly no pain.

Lazybones80 · 10/08/2014 02:46

It doesn't hurt. It felt like a small elastic band being flicked on each lobe to me. Afterwards you have to clean them daily- I used tea tree oil. If they get infected I imagine it would be sore, but mine were fine.

purplepenguin86 · 10/08/2014 03:47

I'm rubbish with pain, and only got mine done a few years ago. It's really not very painful at all, and it's over really quickly. I didn't take any painkillers either (never occurred to me to be honest!) and it really was fine. You do need to be quite diligent about bathing them in salt water a couple of times a day - don't buy any of the weird solutions that jewellers etc recommend, and don't twist the earrings - that just breaks the new skin that's forming. I'd recommend gong to a piercing place (ie somewhere that does body piercing etc too, like a tattoo parlour) as they really know what they are doing, since they pierce things far more complicated than ear lobes!

Dontgotosleep · 10/08/2014 10:51

Thanks everyone for the advice and reasurrance. Definanlty going to get them done.

If you take ibuprofen beforehand it helps with any swelling too.

Don't go to Claires or a hair salon, go to a reputable piercing shop that does not use guns! I'm sure people will come along saying that they had their own gunned and it will be fine but a lot of the time it's not. I can give you more info on this if need be.

Use a quarter of a teaspoon of rock salt to 250ml of boiling water to bathe them twice a day. Tea tree oil is way too harsh.

Do not twist them as any dirt or grime will just get forced in the hole.

beccajoh · 10/08/2014 11:30

About as much as having an injection. Initial sting and then it's over.

littleSpud · 10/08/2014 11:34

Oh it doesn't hurt at all having it done

Mind you I have 4 holes in each ear, my nose lip and belly button pierced Grin
