Board Shorts are cheating?

These arrived today, I've got a blue and purple bikini top that goes perfectly with them and frankly they're the most flattering swimwear I have ever worn, so ordered them in black and pink too.

I mentioned how brilliant and flattering they were to my friend and she did a nasty laugh and said "yes but you're cheating, it's not really a bikini".

Cheating? Who am I cheating? people who want to see my big arse on the beach?

Anyway just want to recommend them because they're fab!

Didn't know wearing a bikini was something you could cheat at. Either you are or you aren't, and not wearing one isn't cheating!

I laughed when she said and said "what are you on about?" She laughed as well but still said it's cheating

I wear board shorts. They are so flattering and a much better option if you are chasing small children around.

Isn't most of how we dress 'cheating'? I cheat every day by wearing things like foundation, mascara, hair dye, bra, tummy flattening tights etc etc.

She's very attractive and slim. Maybe she thinks I should be working as hard at it as her? And not "cheating" my way to looking good on the beach.

If you're chasing kids they're a good option.

My bikini bottoms are a good fit (don't gape) but I've bought a rash vest so I don't have to fuss when the kids grab my bikini top in the sea. I won't wear it all the time, but grabby hands, chasing and wave jumping are a PITA with a bikini.

I love mine. Definitely not cheating.

is this some air-headed comment on the fact that boardies look better, are more practical as they dry really quickly (go commando, remember) and mean you don't have to shave yourself bald?

Sounds like a tongue in cheek comment to me, I wouldn't get upset about it

But please don't buy in to the idea that you have to be size 8 and perfectly toned to be allowed to wear a bikini. Anyone can, and anyone does pretty much. I think if you wear anything else it's fine, but if you want to wear a bikini and don't because you're worried about what others think, that's sad and silly. She is being flippant I think, but also touching on the idea that you have to work to be allowed to wear a bikini on the beach

Since I have only ever owned one bikini (25 years ago) and sometimes pull board shorts over my costume, I am clearly a serial cheat.

I burn really easily and I like actually swimming, diving and water slides, I just don't get the point of bikinis.
