She is so bloody stylish, extremely pretty, her DD is gorgeous and her life (especially the summer just spent in Italy) appears pretty damn perfect. I'm sure it's not really but she does a great job of portraying it as such.

I'm interested to know what her new project is now that she's resigned from Red.

Anyone else seriously envious of her?

I'm not an ardent follower but must say I was very grateful for the offer of on WIT of a 20% discount at the George Northwood salon. Went and loved the cut and colour he and his sister gave me.

Plaidparty · 03/10/2014 21:15

anyone else sick to death hearing about this upcoming 'witproject'?

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:18

I would take someones online portrayal of their life with a massive pinch of salt. I thought Peaches Geldof had a fairly idyllic life but was totally wrong about that. Totally agree Dexter.
I dont read about any of these so called 'people' All veneer.

MrsEboJones76 · 04/10/2014 07:51

I follow LF on instagram and occasionally look at her blog. I really like her style.
Of course, it's her job to make everything look gorgeous. Social media is an escape for me, a bit of frivolity, I don't want to see her looking stressed and messy!!
My current favourite is Eve on All Worn Out.

thesaurusgirl · 04/10/2014 14:17

Well, despite her faults, I'm still following her Blush. I do admire her get up and go, 'everything is an occasion' attitude.

Was her LK Bennett night a flop? I looked at the photos online and hardly anyone seems to have turned up - not enough people to even cover the cost of changing the signage on the store front.

Not surprised really, LK Bennett have become so unpopular and it's going to take more than a lifestyle blogger to rescue their crap customer service.

thesaurusgirl · 04/10/2014 14:21

I bet the long-awaited project is going to be a Youtube channel or some such. Really it should be called the "witless project".

thesaurusgirl · 04/10/2014 14:22

Garance Dore's blog is lovely, I can and have lost entire afternoons on it. I don't know how she's managed to monetise without pissing off her readers, but she has. I want to be her best mate and try out red lipsticks together.

shopaccordingly · 04/10/2014 14:38

It's an online magazine I think?

Twinklestein · 04/10/2014 14:56

I'm really really vain and I've always loved clothes, but even I draw the line at putting on outfits, taking pics. If I found myself doing so I would have a word sharpish.

Lifestyle blogs are ghastly, narcissistic and purely designed to sell you things.

There are people in the world suffering and starving, and this woman is taking photos of cupcakes.

SofaCanary · 04/10/2014 15:12

Couldn't agree with you more Twinkle, although I must admit to enjoying the 'hate-read' aspect of some of the more loathsome, smug ones Blush

AtlanticDrift · 04/10/2014 15:22

But surely the entire world of fashion/lifestyle is frivoulous and designed to sell you things? How do you know that WIT doesnt give tons of money to charity?
Advertising has totally shifted from the traditional magazines etc to social media and blogs. The fashion that you love to buy needs to be seen by customers, the traditional ways simply do not do that anymore so this is how its now advertising. Do people yap and complain about a model being paid to advertise a dress in vogue? But heaven forbid an actual person with a name, online persona take a picture of herself in the same dress. (Despite the fact that the dress won't look anything like it does on the size 0 model on you or I) As for getting paid for blogs, anyone who thinks somone should take time out of their day to source, photograph and write a post for feck all is living in cloud cuckoo land. I have a lot of respect for a blogger who values their time and wants to earn money from a blog. Note to the world:bloggers want to earn money, if you are naive enough to say you are being duped by bloggers you're a bit too wet behind the ears I'm afraid.

thesaurusgirl · 04/10/2014 16:21

I read blogs for the same reason as I read magazines though Twink. For escapism and inspiration. I like pictures of nice clothes and nice houses, not to mention cupcakes

What I don't like is bloggers who come across as twats (qv the Chanel bag/unpaid skivvy debacle).

I'm not really fussed about the freebies - good luck to 'em. The print magazine world runs on freebies, as their salaries are so low, and blogs are no different.

thesaurusgirl · 04/10/2014 16:23

The post about her nanny being dispatched to Primark because she couldn't cope with it herself was pretty nauseating too.

I think WIT can come across really badly at times. The Primark comment is a good example. There have been quite a few others.

'As for getting paid for blogs, anyone who thinks somone should take time out of their day to source, photograph and write a post for feck all is living in cloud cuckoo land.'

It is the blogger's choice to blog. No one is forcing them to do it. There are definitely some who choose to do it because they enjoy it (those with a fait bit of time and no need to been in paid employment generally). There are others like WIT who do it to try to market themselves or things.
I think a lot of readers get a bit irritated when bloggers don't declare freebies/ links with companies as the blogger usually tries to form some sort of relationship with the readers and the readership therefore dislikes them being 'dishonest' with them or the sense that their opinions can't be trusted if they are not open about disclosing things. This is obviously totally different to a model being photographed.

Like twinklestein, I can't think of anything worse than taking photographs of myself to post on the net.

TheBogQueen · 04/10/2014 19:43

Oh wow

Never seen GOMI before

Bloody hell Grin

Twinklestein · 04/10/2014 19:54

Absolutely, and I don't like any of it. I was seduced by fashion and interior mags when I was younger, but I grew out of it. I'm certainly not duped by bloggers but I think other people are. Like the OP saying she wants to be LF, (I know she's not serious) and others commenting what a perfect life she has. That's what you're supposed to think. You're supposed to compare your slightly grubby life to hers, and buy one of the products she promotes to make yourself feel more glamorous. It's supposed to feel more real than a model in a mag because she's a real person, but it's actually as unreal as the fashion mags it replaces. It's all highly manipulative.

thesaurusgirl · 06/10/2014 10:49

Had never read 'What I Bought Today' before this thread.

She is very good at giving her life a positive spin, and I have to admire her chutzpah.

She calls herself a "developer", because she's put in a new kitchen and bathroom and then sold immediately afterwards.

She says she lives in a "lovely, leafy part of West London". It's actually the bedsit part of Olympia (I can see the sorting office from the window).

She's got pics of her flying Business Class to LA, but it's probably on airmiles her husband got through work. I work with loads of high net worth people and don't know anyone who pays for Business or First on their own tab.

She has a very large and blingy engagement ring but the stones are white so they can't be particularly good diamonds.

She's created a persona for the net and that's great - I doubt Ronald McDonald makes peace with Hamburglar in real life, either Grin.

Wardrobe Icons. It takes 4 people to create a glorified blog / list of affiliate links???!!! Seriously.
