I am trying to achieve looser curls and have been researching online. Recommendations seem to be a large barrel curler, anyone have a good experience or recommendation of one?

I'm trying to achieve a similar look to this picture.

Well I have the most fantastic tool ..... its a lee stafford wonderball waver. It is absolutely amazing. Lovely waves or curls

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 11:38

I cant see the pic as on mobile

Nurserytastic · 02/08/2014 12:08

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm really struggling to achieve looser waves in my hair, my current tongs curl my hair well but into tight ringletty curls.

Does the lee Stafford one manage looser curls?

I do these waves with my straighteners by grabbing a piece of hair and acting like I'm trying to curl it under, then as if I'm flicking it out, then back under etc all the way down the length of hair.
It's hard to explain.

Or you would need a large barrel tong for a looser wave but your hair will need to be longish or they won't do anything.

There's also tongs that have like balls going down the tong (looks suspiciously like a sex toy) they are supposed to be good too (saw it on this morning and every-fing Grin)

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 12:18

I dont know if rhey are loose enough for you but they can give a beachy look... kind of sexy beachy waves and as for curls, it kind of gives me loose ones when they have dropped out slightly. I have loads of things for hair and this is fab even just to have for sonething different. They also last wirh minimum product. Itvis wonderful. Google it on you tube.

Nurserytastic · 02/08/2014 12:19

I'm suspicious of the ball tongs!! Grin

I would love a pair of large barrel tongs but I would need a clamp on them.

Trouble is when I read reviews online there are a lot saying that the tong did nothing to their hair. I wasted enough cash on my hair bloody baby lists big hair for the products or implement (ooh er) not to do a flaming thing to my hair. Ho hum.

ha ha ha....well im sure my dh looked at me strangely when I took it out the box!!!
I have heated rollers and can't get them to work for me either.

dottytablecloth · 02/08/2014 13:56

What about the Babyliss Wave Envy?

Nurserytastic · 02/08/2014 14:07

Dotty that is one I have been looking at but there are a lot. Of negative reviews, some specifically stating that it created no curls at all.

This is why I want first hand experience!!

Fcukfifas idea is good! I do this too and it's cheaper than buying more hair equipment

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 15:24

It can do loose waves or kind of loose ringlets. It just depends if you take large sections of hair you will get the waves..small then kind of ringlet curls but not really tight ones. Just nice ones!!!

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 15:26

Enrapture amplify is good...i also have that. Its really easy to use..and does give a gorgeous wave. It certainly does not look crimpy and horrible. It tends to dry my hair out though so i dont over use it. It is great too. It doesnt curl..only waves.

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 15:27

I have to say too..thats a fantastic price..its usually far more expensive. I would snap that up!!

BOFster · 02/08/2014 15:37

Sally do a range of large barrel tongs like this one. Your hair does need to be quite long though, I think.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 02/08/2014 15:40

My hairdresser uses the wide plated straighteners. They'll be on my Christmas list :-)

Needtoemigrate · 02/08/2014 15:46

Would the wonderball waver work on shortish hair ? Mine is just above shoulder length but love a messy wave look

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 16:22

Well basically you have to wrap your hair in sections at a time around it. The wonderball is not thick but quite thin. How much you could wrap along it depends upon how much you could twist it around it iykwim. My hair is just below my shoulders and it works fine. I would you tube it to see how its done and then decide. I really like the look it gives.

Greengardenpixie · 04/08/2014 07:53

What did you decide? Did my hair using lee stafford thingvwhen I posted and
its been wavy yesterday and today! A really amazing hair accessory! That 3 days!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 04/08/2014 10:27

I can do that with my straighteners (it took a while to get the hang of it, though!) - I looked on YouTube for tutorials - and when I was younger and my hair was as long as in the OP's picture, I used to plait it when it was slightly damp, sleep on it, and it would look like that when I took out the plaits in the morning.

Mitchey · 04/08/2014 13:25

I use the Size 34 Babyliss ceramic tongs, best ones I've ever used but you do need quite long hair as they're very fat!
