I need a new bag for uni in September, something big enough to hold some books and a couple of folders, etc.
Any recommendations?

I've seen a nice big denim shopper in gap for £30. I don't think it's worth £30 but there is always a discount code knocking around. They also have an olive version with flowers.

On my phone, otherwise I would link.

Leather will be heavy, even before stuffing folders in it. I am a recent convert to the plain black Kipling bags - they are really light.

Have you checked out the totes and rucksacks on Accessorize? They might not be to your taste but they tend to have a decent selection.

As a PP said, get a backpack.

I had a leather satchel, and a bucket style handbag. Neither is as comfortable or useful as the £9.99 firetrap backpack I got from sports direct. Grin
