Tesco waxed jacket

Trying it on next week to see if it looks good

But wonder how people have found it i for longevity, waterproofness etc.

I do a lot of city walking, commute by foot, prefer to leave brolly at home.

At £38 its cheaper than the Barbour, but not so cheap that its "buy and doesn't matter if its shite" stuff.

They seem to have changed the style a bit from previous years, which is a shame as I quite liked the line of gold buttons down the front.

Looks nice! The only thing I would say is that the cheap ones are not 'proper' wax. I have a great looking one from M+S.. but in real weather it isn't properly waterproof although it is a waxed jacket.

My Barbour one stays dry no matter what... I got mine here

I got one last year from Tesco and really liked it. I did wear it in the rain and didn't get wet so it served it's purpose.

I will be wearing it again this year as it still looks good nothing to do with me having lots of coats to wear

Thanks all, now I'm wondering at the whole waterproof thing.

I'd like my wax jacket to be Ok to throw on with wellies for hardcore walking (as well as for lightish city duties) I live in a rainy city too!

Will still try on and "have a feel", I like trying on clothes. Might have to bite the bullet and sell children bankrupt myself for the real Barbour though if the cheaper ones are not properly waterproof.

Well it does only say showerproof, which isn't the same as waterproof.

It's nice though, I might try one on next time I go :)

showerproof according to the Tesco site. Wot is the difference between that and waterproof?

Waterproof means no water will get through the fabric even under pressure, showerproof some water may get through. Also, waterproof fabric will dry faster. Showerproof is fine for most people. I wash both showerproof things with reproofing stuff and it seems to help them keep out the water

I got the Beadnell with a purple flowery lining... not regretted it.. it looks great and even spending a day by the rugby field, in apocalyptic rain, I stayed dry!

I bought two of these last year, the first leaked badly along one arm. I had tge receipt but they sold out so exchanged it for tge longer belted navy one. This also leaked! I had a refund then bought a Barbour - fabulous! So good I bought an artic down winter waterproof coat too! Both expensive but I still have many more years of school run walking ahead of me and I was fed up of the mums net fav Merrel!!

The leak is caused by inferior finish along the seams. All the weak points should be thoroughly re-proofed after the wax is applied to keep the water out. No different to a raincoat that leaks
