So plopping....

I have been doing this for the last few times i washed my hair. The first time, it left my hair beautifully soft i couldnt believe it. It was still frizzy though. So, i decided after re-reading that i would put some product on my hair. So i have some hair oil and popped that on. Well my hair has been wrapped in my dh tee for over an hour now. Took my hair out and OMG!! Where have all the curls come from?????
I have naturally kinky hair and if i leave it to dry naturally its a horrible frizzy but wavy and curls mixed in. If i dry it with the hair dryer it goes quite straight. Infact i could make it really straight with a brush.
So it really surprised me that it has gone so curly!!! Now i have a question..i have put my hair back in the tee and wrapped it up again cause its still damp. Is it ok to do that or does it defeat the purpose of it - to undo it and then put it back on???

You don't use a towel at all. You use an old tshirt, lay your hair in it so it's piled on top of your head and then tuck the ends in under the side. It encourages clumps of curl to form and the key is to disturbe your hair as little as possible. It's a totally different method to squeezing all your hair out with a rough terry towel. Google it, there are tonnes of tutorials. www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/to-plop-or-not-to-plop/. I've been CG on and off for six years and it's been the single best thing I've done for my hair. I use old nighties and shirts that are smooth.

cheapbread, it works best on shoulder length hair..i dont have a fringe but i can imagine it would stick up..and im not sure you could get it to sit right so maybe not for your hair.

In this house plopping is called 'leaving your hair wrapped in a towel for too long so it looks shit when you take the towel off and even shitter if you then try to dry it'Grin

Thanks Green. Ill give the tshirt a go but any previous attempt I've made to curl my hair lasts all of 5 mins anyway, I should just leave the curls to the other gurls.

Well im currently plopping as we speak. I am using the left in conditioner trick to see how i get on. Will report back. Using my new fab microfibre hair wrap that i got out of homebargains. its fantastic!! Even if you dont plop its great to use for treatment conditoners. It keeps your hair in it lovely and secure. I am going to purchase another when i get the chance.
The curls i got were amazing. My problem is, once i take them out..i dont know what to do with my hair. I ran my fingers through it and it just kind of frizzed and spoilt the curl....although it settled back down and it was soft and less frizzy than anytime i have let it dry on its own before.

Well have to say....that did not work for me...so leaving conditioner in my hair is out.
It made it super super frizzy!!! either that or it was the wrap thing on my head. Anway, i had to rinse it out so if anything its had an extra good conditioning treatment!!
Drying it now...in a plop ha ha...so here we go again!!
Not going to leave it in for very long. Going to put some hair oil on it and wrap it up again for 3o mins.

Did you use a microfibre towel? It will cause frizz ones. You needs to use tshirt material or smooth woven cotton. And only leave it on for a max of thirty minutes.

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 13:50

yes, it was perhaps that! I used a microfibre one. I had to wash the conditioner out and then i just dried it with a t-shirt. Ive been mucking about with my hair too much today so am just letting it air dry which is never ever a good thing for me. Will try again next time i wash it and continue with my tee. I had better results. I wont leave the conditioner in but i may try the mousse this time round.

I tried it this morning and have had lovely curls all day...they are a little bit on the frizzy side now, but it's certainly the best way of getting curls that I've tried. Hurrah!
