Yet another bra question!

I've had some great advice about bras on the chat board - I didn't know there was a style and beauty board!

I've decided that Bravissimo own brand bras suit my shape more than Fantasie/Freya or Panache/Cleo and I've finally got some potential keepers - Tartan Fling, Candy Bliss and Floral Haze. I was measured as a 34GG instore but had the 4 boob effect so went back to my old size of 34H and I feel they fit ok. Sadly I keep escaping from the Purity moulded bra so I think I'm just the wrong shape for a moulded cup!

However (this couldn't be straightforward!) I decided to measure myself using the method on the bra intervention threads. I'm a 35 back and when I do the 90 degree bit there's 13 inches difference. Does that make me a 34/36J or have I done something wrong?

It would make a starting point of a J, but if you feel that the 34H fits then I would not worry - the measurement only gives a starting point for trying bras and especially at larger sizes the margin for error does increase a bit.

Great, thank you. I seem to go between an H and HH depending on style so I'll persevere and I'm sure I'll find something suitable one day!

Sorry, one more question - I've tried the Purity again and I think I've just got the wrong size - I can do the back up on the tightest hooks and there's a bit of 4 boob effect going on. I know I need to go down to a 32 back but do I just need to go up to the HH or is it not that straightforward?

Thanks again.

I'd suggest the J if you have 4 boob, as going to a 32HH isn't going to give you more cup space.

Thanks again, I'll go away and leave you alone and sort out my exchange order!

No worries!

Have you tried Betsy Bow btw? It's a really nice bravissimo one. Boudoir beau is also popular slightly different shape but worth a look.

PinkSparklyElephant · 27/07/2014 17:50

Funny you should say that, I've just been looking at the Betsy Bow - it might have to go on my exchange order! I'll have a look at the Boudoir Beau. I just wish they did a nude or black bra in the same style as their balconettes. I love the pretty patterns but they are no good under thin clothes and unfortunately I find the Alana really uncomfortable.

I'm desperate for the Satine to fit but I don't think that will happen! The Melrose fits beautifully but I'm not keen on full cup bras.

I know you've not had much luck with Freya, but a lot of people like the Freya Gem which comes in a nice nude version.

Alana I find runs smaller than their other balconettes, I need a cup up in it. But it is quite stiff/firm and a lot of people don't like it. Marmite bra!

Good nudes are hard to come by though, my best is an Ewa Michalak

PinkSparklyElephant · 27/07/2014 19:06

I keep reading good things about Ewa Michalek but not plucked up the courage to order in case it doesn't fit.

I'm trying to lose weight (18.5lb off so far hence needing new bras) and I've decided that I'll stick with the Melrose for a basic bra - not the most attractive bra but it fits, it comes in nude and doesn't rub! If I can lose a bit more I'll then start looking for something different. Saying it's not attractive, they have got Pretty as a Posy and Pretty as a Pin Up so it's not all bad! (And yes, they did sneak into my basket!)

Oh and thanks for the Freya Gem recommendation, I'll order one of those as well!
