NORKS not norms Grin
though I do know two Normans !

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/07/2014 17:01

even when i've been slim I've never been able to wear their jeans.. they just don't make them for lanky birds (well fairly… 5ft 9, long legs short body) who still have curves (i.e. small waist but hips and bust). the crotch would come to my knees..and as for Zara…grrrr (and Primark). they obviously save on using less fabric

gerbiltamer · 25/07/2014 17:02

Fear not, I am a UK16/36F and nothing goes near me in H&M. It's great for DS' skinny bottomed clobber though.

Floisme · 25/07/2014 17:07

Oh ignore it, I've been anything from an 8 to a 14 there. They don't call them 'Hit & Miss' for nothing.

It's lost them sales as it means I only buy there if I've got the time and energy to try on at least 3 sizes.

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/07/2014 17:11

it's been said time and time again..but wish shops would keep their sizes standard in UK

gotadevilshaircutinmymind · 25/07/2014 17:12

You are not alone, I am generally a size ten - nearer a twelve but I have huge hips, size fourteen in H&M, I find they are really small, good quality though! :)

weekendgirl66 · 25/07/2014 17:15

you are all my new best buddies,,, love the hit and miss floisme

H&M trousers ccome up way too small. In a size 12 everywhere and could just about do up a size 16 in there.
I do love it for tops though (make them extra long for tall girls). And I've just bought an age 14 hoody which fits me perfectly (and was £10 cheaper than the women's version downstairs!). Result.
trousers are good for my tall skinny boys.

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/07/2014 19:05

actually i just remembered I got their eiffel tower blouse last week for only £5 in sale. It's an L yet I can actually do it up over the dreaded norks. And i've put tons of weight on lately.. am UK 18 now! so it really does pay to sift through the rails-

BoobsandaBeerBelly · 25/07/2014 19:20

Is their divided by h&m range on the small side too?

Chipandspuds · 25/07/2014 19:24

H&M sizing is absolutely shit! I'm a size 12 in most shops eg New Look, Next, Dorothy Perkins but tried on some H&M maternity jeans which were size 16 and sooo tight! I think I would have needed to buy a size 20 to be comfortable! I know it's just a number but I'm not buying size 20 jeans when I'm a size 12.

Andallmyhopeisgone · 25/07/2014 19:32

Agree, most things in H&M are definitely smaller fitting than other stores, smaller than Topshop for example. And then the odd item is randomly oversized. Dress sizes vary so much, they're just a rough guide.

beccajoh · 25/07/2014 19:42

I'm similarly proportioned to you OP, but a stone lighter, and would expect a 12 to fit in H&M. In other places I'd be a 10-12.

Wishyouwould · 25/07/2014 20:00

I find H&M sizing bizarre. I am a 12 yet have jackets from there which are a 16 and tops from there which are size Small.

NorbertDentressangle · 25/07/2014 20:12

I've always found H&M sizes all over the place.

This was confirmed recently when I went shopping for jeans with seriously skinny 14yo DD. Jeans in the teenage section were all way too big, especially round the waist and thighs yet a ladies size 6 fitted her perfectly.

Honestly the size 6 ones were so, so small I couldn't any adult fitting in them, even Victoria Beckham (the infamous size 0) .

Passthecake30 · 25/07/2014 20:14

I'm a 14 in there. 10-12 everywhere else

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 26/07/2014 07:57

I've never had a problem with H&M sizing...Confused

Enb76 · 26/07/2014 08:06

I've never had a problem with their sizing either.

AuntieStella · 26/07/2014 08:10

That sizing site is fascinating.

I put in the size in inches of the last "standard" size before standardisation was abolished in 1980s and manufacturers began vanity sizing.

I used NY Times as source of measurements for the then US size 10 (UK 14).

According to darkgreener, that is now a UK size 6.

SinglePringle · 26/07/2014 08:12

I'm the same - I don't have a problem with sizing in any shops I go to (Top Shop, Zara, River Island, H&M, Whistles, Cos etc).

I'm 5'8, 32f and a size 10-12 in all the above (or a medium).

Don't shop in Next, DP's, M&S so no comment on their sizing.

50ShadesOfSummer · 26/07/2014 10:02

Glad I'm not the only one who finds the sizing in H&M on the small side. I'm size 10 pretty much everywhere but usually have to go for a 12 in H&M.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 26/07/2014 10:18

Hit&Miss Grin that describes the awful place exactly.

Poor quality, small sizing and awful cutting (no hips, or arse space). The vast majority of adults stuff is a total waste of effort.

Kids is OK and their vest tops are really soft cotton, but otherwise too much of their stuff has gone to the charity shop too quickly.

RonaldMcDonald · 26/07/2014 10:27

I'm 5'10 ish and 10st 2 ATM
I wear anything between a 10-14

weekendgirl66 · 26/07/2014 13:25

took the lot back Blushended up with a few 2 sizes bigger, after deciding it was what looked good as apposed to what the label said about size Wink than 1 I had brought from Monsoon Grin my normal size 12 but this has been a very enlightening i hate shopping when the sales are on, cause they seem to bring out all the tat,, but there then that would be another story Wink Thank you everyone who has contributed x

I've gone from an 8 to a 6 in Next. I haven't got any smaller. Still an 8 in H&M. For the poster with a teenager - the 13-14 y/o jeans are equivalent to a size 8 (or a 6 in Next). But it does depend on style (I'm talking about the skinny jeans). H&M jeans are longer though. Teenagers are TALL these days (except mine).
