How do you keep shoes nice???

I am gutted as I have just noticed my glittery jelly shoes are broken, after only having them 4 weeks.

I don't have a single pair of sandals that are in good nick! One pair are scuffed at the toes so the sole's inside is exposed; one of my gladiator sandals' buckles broke so is held together by a safety pin; the soles on another pair are cracked where they bend as I step...

I try and rotate so they get even wear and tear but they are all shoddy. They were once all so pretty!

My jellies were only £20ish but that was me splashing out so I can't really buy loads of new shoes at once.

Any tips??

Don't wear them. Seriously.

I don't wear my 'nice' shoes if I'm doing lots of walking, going somewhere dirty, running around at the park etc.

I have crappy shoes for heavy wear and use my nice ones for when I'm visiting family, going to the cinema etc.

Same as Chanie44. I keep my nice / new shoes for weekends, outings, occasiond etc... I wear older shoes to work and for heavy wear.

Some shoes just don't stand up to much wear. I have found even casual trainers to wear through the soles in less than a season.

Now I look at the soles of all the shoes I'm going to wear for general use. I bought fake Birkenstock style sandals from Amazon for £10 this year that still look like new and I've been wearing them constantly. Not surprising my Art pair of a similar style lasted almost 10 years and are only just wearing through. In the winter I wear lace ups from Clarks. I've a pair that is over a year and not much sign of wear.

So it's the shoes...

Capsium, at last someone else who owns art shoes, love mine to bits! Agree that good quality shoes will last. I also resole shoes with leather soles after the first month of wearing them and keep all my shoes on racks so they don't scuff each other. I wear clothes from supermarkets and high street, but invest well in shoes, bags and underwear Smile

If I had a pair of shoes that broke after 4 weeks I would be taking them back for a refund.

capsium · 17/07/2014 21:23

Yeah I like my Arts. Was coveting some new ones a bit but couldn't decide which to get, so got the cheap ones. They are nice though, soft leather and nice cork footbed.

Just like to add - preventative care is big with me. I use Scotchguard and spray suede protectors, metal blakeys for the heels, etc.

WitchWay · 17/07/2014 21:52

"blakeys" ?? are they what I would call "segs" ?? Little metal bits stuck in that make a tap tap noise when you walk? They were dead trendy when I was at school in the 80s Grin

WitchWay · 17/07/2014 21:53

I always put protective spray on new shoes, get soles & heels fixed when needed & use polish when required

BreeVDKamp · 18/07/2014 12:26

Cool thanks everyone!! Don't wear them - good advice, so obvious but didn't occur to me. Ha!

Yes the jelly shoes were from Office, by Juju, so they don't make them but I'll get in touch with office anyway.
