J Crew online - returns - restocking fee???

I bought a couple of things at J Crew in the London store. I was really happy with my purchases so I then looked online. The site said it was free shipping and free returns. I ordered a top that was sold out in my colour in the store. I also decided to order a dress in two sizes.

I kept the top but decided the dress didn't suit me. I contacted them to arrange return of the dress and found out I would be charged a "restocking fee" of £26!!!

That's ridiculous. Has anyone had experience of this?

Certainly not - I would be querying that again. Sounds like a mistake to be charging you anything for a return.

I think it's just the manual application of the discount you must have got for the dress - A bit silly of them to word it this way as new customers are bound to query it.

They once charged me a ludicrous amount for a free return, queried it with them and they refunded and were v apologetic. Just get in touch, they should be fine.

Cardoon - you are right! It was a discount that was applied after my order was processed. My faith in them is restored!
