Do you polish your work shoes?

I work in a travel agents and my b/f commented that my shoes look scruffy!!

Seems he polishes his every week - I never bother.

Do other people do this and does it matter.

I try to be well groomed in other respects but have just never bothered with shoes.

No I'm too busy/lazy Blush

Leviticus · 16/07/2014 13:30

Yes! Would you wear a dirty top for work? Your BF is right.

FluffyDucky · 16/07/2014 13:35

Yes I try to remember to do it once a month, usually my weekend off. It makes them look so much better and last longer.
I was in a TA on Saturday and I couldn't help but notice her shoes. She was well groomed but hey shoes were a state! Huge scuffs, chunks it if the leather. Shame really, they were nice shoes!

FluffyDucky · 16/07/2014 13:35

Excuse the typos. I'm on my phone and being lazy!

ejayne · 16/07/2014 13:40

Sorry whats a TA?

Yes. When I had a job that involved being very smart on a daily basis I kept the cleaning stuff in my drawer at work and did them every morning.

Carpaccio · 16/07/2014 13:51

Yes.

hpickup · 16/07/2014 13:54

I work in a job where appearance is important (Estee Lauder in Boots), but I don't think it applies so much to shoes.

Mine are pretty scuffed and look more grey that navy as I walk to and from work.

dashoflime · 16/07/2014 13:56

Yes, about once every two weeks on a sunday night.

hpickup · 16/07/2014 14:17

If your worried maybe keep some flats in work, but I really don't think it matter TBH

FluffyDucky · 16/07/2014 14:21

Sorry, travel agents!

I'm lazy but we have an automatic shoe cleaner on all floors of our office building. Just press a button for the cream and another one to polish and a buffer it's fab.

runningonwillpower · 16/07/2014 15:32

We have a weekly shoe polish.

Keeps the shoes looking nice with the added benefit of prolonging their life.

Why would you bother to dress nicely and then put on scuffed shoes? I know I would notice and I think most people would.

Bunbaker · 16/07/2014 15:36

Yes, when I remember. In a customer facing role I think it is important to look smart and professional - from top to toe.

I notice shoes, and polish mine.

WitchWay · 16/07/2014 19:52

I polish mine (& DH's & DS's) when they need doing, rather than following a regular routine. I like cleaning shoes Smile

TheRedQueen · 16/07/2014 19:58

Yes, absolutely. Generally DH does them but if he's not around then I will do them. I consider clean shoes to make an important contribution to a polished look.

Politelydeclining · 16/07/2014 20:08

Yes.

In my first ever real job I had a boss who always commented on them if they weren't polished which got me into the habit.

GinUtero · 16/07/2014 20:12

I polish mine when I notice they need doing - once every couple of weeks or so.

My parents used to polish theirs every day, so compared to them I've very lax about it!

My OH never polishes his. Sometimes I give them a polish myself when they're looking particularly bad, but he never bloody notices, it's just not on his radar!

BarefootShirl · 16/07/2014 20:16

I polish mine when I can be arsed when they need doing as I like them to look smart but it is a bit of a joke in the office as I hardly ever have them on!

GiveTwoSheets · 16/07/2014 20:31

Yes and I was very anal about my DD school shoes, did them every school day and with proper polish too but that's because I grew up with a dad having being in army! I even sneaked into her wardrobe and polished her boots a while back because it drove me mad and she wouldn't do it.

leadrightfoot · 16/07/2014 20:38

Yes shoes need to be clean tidy polished and accentuate the outfit
I always notice shoes
Check over shoes before putting away after wear
If need polishing then do not put away but put in polishing pile same as any mends or re heels
Polish pile creation usually means I go through the whole load of shoes and do any others that are getting to there in one batch usually sun evening chore
