Hot in the city?

I'm off to London (from Ireland) on Friday to meet an old friend from the States who happens to be there for a short time. I am stupidly excited at the thought of DC3 free shopping time!!
However now I'm panicking about what to pack and wear on such a short trip (about 36 hours), given that my weather app says it's going to be 29 degrees in London on Friday and I'll only have carry on luggage. I seem to remember reading somewhere that flip-flops /open toed shoes are a no-no on the underground as your feet get so dirty??? I've had a little last minute panic shop and ordered these -

Are these too casual, not casual enough, trying too hard?? And what the hell do I wear on my feet if I can't wear sandals?
I'm over-thinking this, aren't I?? Grin
I'm 41, 5'7", size 12, if it matters.

Why can't you wear sandals? Love all the dresses btw :)

Ihatemytoes · 14/07/2014 10:55

Yes, you're overthinking it. It's London, wear what you want!

mycatlikestwiglets · 14/07/2014 11:02

You're definitely over thinking it! I wouldn't go bare footed in London but sandals/flip flops are absolutely fine. It's a pretty casual city if you aren't going to work in an office so no need to "dress up". The dresses you've linked to are all fine. Have a great trip!

Provencalroseparadox · 14/07/2014 11:03

Agree with everyone else. Flip flops fine

deXavia · 14/07/2014 11:05

I would wear sandals than flip flops but only because I once lost my flip flop in the 'gap' between the train and platform. Having to hop along a platform on my remaining flip flop to get a guard to fish it out - was not my finest moment!

Am a Londoner and agree with everyone else. People here dress in every sort of way - no need for any particular look. Just what you're comfortable in.

Like the dresses. Have the blue casual jersey one and wore it in Rome happily a few weeks ago in hot weather, so should be ideal. A good casual city dress in the plain colours.

No problem at all on sandals - I wear them lots in summer and feet not horrifically dirty at end of day!

CrazyLadyAtNumber31 · 14/07/2014 12:33

Thank you all! That's exactly the sort of thing would happen to me re. the flipflops in the gap!

I don't think flip-slops are great on escalators either. But sandals are fine, although would go for something with a slight cushion/heel if you're doing lots of walking as the soles on summer shoes can be a bit thin for trekking city pavements.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 14/07/2014 13:00

Agree with all above.

I wouldn't wear flip flops because of escalators and tube gaps but I wear either birkenstocks every day or my nice new saltwater sandals (thanks MN) and feet are fine, dirt wise !

autumnsmum · 14/07/2014 13:18

Agree with avoiding flip flops but have a wonderful trip

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/07/2014 14:54

I wore birkenstocks last weekend and was fine but wouldn't wear flip flops.

Wear what you like, it's London, no one cares, that's the best thing about the place!Smile
