Cartilage ear piercing

I am in a dilemma about cartilage ear piercing, can't decide if:
a) I love or hate it (is it common)
b) Am I too old for it? (Am 41) and
c) Does it hurt more than normal piercing?

What are your views?

I like it. have my nose done but am too scared to have it done..I've heard it hurts!

Madratlady · 13/07/2014 18:03

A) I like it
B) not too old
C) stings like hell but no worse than having my ear lobes done imo.

If you do go for it, get it done at a proper piercing studio with a needle not a gun.

Up till last week I loathed it but my 18 yr old dd was determined and what could I say?
Now I really like it and think it suits her. (she already had ordinary ear lobes.)
She said it did hurt.
But no you are NOT too old, I am older than you and now thinking of having it myself (not just to annoy dd, really ....)

I am 41 and have had my cartilage piercing for 20 years. I wear a small diamond in it. It's not very painful to have done but there is a dull pain for quite a while afterwards as humor cartilage tries to repair itself. Takes months before you can sleep on it. I do love my cartilage piecing though, you're not too old at all. I have 3 holes in my other ear and got my first (and probably last) tattoo at 39....

40thisisit · 13/07/2014 20:19

So, should it be the right or left one that gets pierced? Or does it make no difference?

I had my helix (top of ear) pierced 3 weeks ago, didn't hurt a bit, fine to sleep on, even that night! Love it so much Smile I was really scared that it was going to hurt and asked them for gas and air Grin but honestly didn't feel a thing...I'm 39 xx

There are loads of different types of ear cartilage piercing - what are you thinking about?

Whatever you do, get pierced by a proper piercer (with a needle), and not a gun: www.homiegfunk.com/gun.htm

Greengardenpixie · 13/07/2014 20:42

I had mine done. It wasnt that bad really. The thing is though, it can become infected really easily and thats what happened to both of mine. I had two done. One got infected and i had to remove it..that was incredibly sore and the second one literally years later got infected out of the blue and again, i had to remove it. My dh has had his since i got mine done and his has been fine though.

MrsBungle · 13/07/2014 20:44

My dh is 43 and has a stud thing in the top of his ear. He's had it for years. I quite like it, it's not too out there.

CoconutAmericano · 13/07/2014 20:46

I keep meaning to buy a new piercing for mine. I haven't put one in in years but I'm pretty sure the hole is still open. Feck it, I'm taking this thread as a sign. Im buying one!

MrsCosmopilite · 13/07/2014 20:49

a) Love it
b) Not too old. I've got mine done and want another next to it. I'm older than you.
c) It hurts a bit more but it's not awful. It's a bit uncomfortable if you catch it on things.
d) Get whichever one you sleep on less done!

VarsityQueen · 13/07/2014 22:16

I had mine done about 15 years ago. They used a gun. It took a year to heal. So I agree with making sure they use a needle and picking the side you don't sleep on. Never regretted it though!

Cocolepew · 13/07/2014 22:23

DD had it done last week and Ive had it done for 30 years, both by gun and no problems.

AgathaF · 14/07/2014 09:01

I have mine done. They do take a long time to heal and can be really uncomfortable for quite a while. Worse than other piercings, I think. Definitely get the side you sleep on the least pierced. Also, this type of stud with the flat back (labret I think) is much more comfortable to sleep on.

MrsCosmopilite · 14/07/2014 09:23

I must admit I switched the stud out for a thin hoop as soon as I could - I find this more comfortable as it lays flat against my ear.
When I got mine done it was the old-style method, with a gun. Next one will be with a needle and I'm thinking about getting my nose done at the same time.

piratecat · 14/07/2014 09:24

i like
you're fine
hurts more, and ime takes ages to heal (mine never did sadly)
