Another bra thread....

I recently went into Bravissimo to get fitted and to buy a new bra. I went in wanting a t-shirt bra in a nude colour, but it soon because clear that I am the wrong shape for moulded bras. After trying on about a million bras I ended up buying a Fantasie Rebecca bra in a 30FF (despite being measured as a 28G - the sales assistant said that I had more options to pick from if I went with a 30FF).

Since bringing the bra home and trying it on, I hate it. I didn't like it when I bought it, but it was at the end of a day shopping, I was hot, tired and sick of trying on endless bras. I can't quite describe what I don't like about it - it just makes me feel really frumpy (apologies if anyone has this bra!).

The issue with the moulded t-shirt bras was that the wires don't come up high enough at the front and I end up with overspill. I am going to take the Rebecca bra back next week and I would like to exchange it for one that I actually like, and which fits better - the 30 back is too big and doesn't sit straight around me. Does anyone have any suggestions for which styles I should try on? I like a little padding as I am not that well endowed, and I would like to be able to wear it under fitted clothes, so seamless/smooth would be ideal. Thank you! Smile

I think the quest for moulded is tge problem tbh -they're very hard to fit. What was wrong with them shape wise -that will help us work out alternative

ThisIsShe · 12/07/2014 14:14

I am not bothered about the moulded ones, I just want something with a little padding and not too lacy/bumpy so I can wear it under clothes without it being 'seen', IYSWIM?

The assistant just said that I wasn't the right shape for moulded bras because I either spill out over the wires, or when in the next cup size up I don't fill the top of the cups. I am guessing that means my boobs are bottom heavy?

The Rebecca bra is fine in terms of not being seen under my clothes, but it doesn't fit properly (even the assistant said "it'll do"), and I just don't really like it. It was expensive (£40+) and for that amount of money I'd like a bra that I actually like. I'm maybe wanting the moon on a stick! :D

Oops. Emoticon fail. Grin

I know what you mean OP, I just want a simple bra that isn't visible under clothes- I hate textured patterns/lace!

pre preg number 2 I lived in deco and porcelain, both moulded but now my cup size is too big for those styles I'm a bit stumped. I have a satine bravissimo bra which is ok but a bit too plungey for my shape- did you try that?

ThisIsShe · 12/07/2014 14:31

Yeah, I did, but I had the same issue re. over spill. I did like it though.

It seems there are three bra types - plunge/moulded which don't suit me, lacy and patterned which show up under clothes, or bras my gran would approve of! Grin

Stupid bras.

My sympathies re Bravissimo, I've had good fittings and bad fittings and your experience mirrors my bad ones where I've ended up buying a bra for all the same reasons you did. I've now found I do better buying and returning online from either Bravissimo or some of the other retailers recommended on Mumsnet (thank you so much bra interventionalists Smile ).

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/07/2014 16:01

Hmm, it's sounding to me like you are bottom heavy, and possibly relatively wide rooted and shallow? Does that sound about right?

Branleuse · 12/07/2014 16:03

fantasie bras are nearly all frumpy.
Try Freya or Panache ( i love the cleos)

ThisIsShe · 12/07/2014 17:11

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had a bad Bravissimo experience! I think in future I'll just order online then return until I happen upon a good fit. I'm too wimpy to try another fitting!

I just googled wide rooted and shallow breasts and I have no idea whether I am or not.... My breast tissue does go quite a way under my arms/around my rib cage, but most of the mass is up front - in profile I'm a bit ski jump like! Grin

Thanks guys Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/07/2014 18:13

The ski jump is more bottom heavyness I think. Can you remember any other bras you tried at all? Might help to narrow down the suggestions. I'm suspecting tge fitter got over focused on the moulded element which seriously restricted what she tried.

ThisIsShe · 12/07/2014 19:26

I think I tried on the following:

Bravissimo Alana
Freya Deco
Bravissimo Satine
Bravissimo Purity

There were another couple, but I don't remember enough about them to spot which ones they were on the website. Apart from the Alana they were all padded/moulded and in nude. The Rebecca was the only one that had wires that came up high enough - all the others were fairly low (more plunge style I suppose?).

I am not sure the fitter really knew what she was doing - she just kept upping the cup size to try and eradicate the overspill, she had me in a 28HH (I'm a 28G) which was more of a case of it wearing me than me wearing it!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 12/07/2014 19:40

How did the Alana fit?

ThisIsShe · 12/07/2014 19:49

I seem to think it fitted OK, however the pictures on the website don't tally with what I remember. It had very thin, lacy full cups. I am almost certain that the assistant called it the Alana though. She kept telling me how pretty and popular it was.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 12/07/2014 20:06

Hmmm. Alana is certainly very popular, and it's one that I would have thought would have worked shape wise as it's good for full on bottom boobs.

I think we're going to need to do a good old trial and error. Here's a few that are worth trying and tend to work on full on bottom boobs- there is no way they will all work as they have a lot of differences otherwise, but hopefully it will help to work out size and shape:

-Bravissimo Alana!
-Cleo Juna
-Cleo Maddie
-Freya Patsy half cup
-Bravissimo Dotty Spot
-Cleo Minnie, Marcie, Millie, molly, Minnie, Meg...one of them!
-Freya Marvel
-Panache Porcelain (NOT THE PLUNGE!)
-Curvy Kate smoothie

Thank you so much, Statistically!! Flowers I'm actually looking forward to going bra shopping now!

I will report back. Smile

I thought I should pop back and give you an update....

I am now the proud owner of two Cleo Juna bras that fit perfectly!

Thanks again, Statistically, you're a star! Flowers

Result! Glad you got sorted.

It's not foolproof, but quite often people who like Juna (which is also sold as Darcy in different colourways btw) also like Millie/Minnie/Meg/Lily/Marcie as well.
