Deodorant recommendations please

Can anyone recommend a deodorant to me? I usually use sure but it isn't standing up to the warm weather.

I have tried Mitchum roll on, whilst it does the job well I can't but I can't use it for more than a day because it makes my underarms unbearably itchy.

I find either Sure or Dove Maximum Protection great. They're a sort of roll on cream that comes in a box. Costs about £5 but I find it works.

Vichy. Great stuff.

Sure and Dove both make a deodorant called Maximum Protection. They are very similar - if not exactly the same. They are very good!

Perspirex. Smells a bit odd but you apply it at night and it lasts 48 hours unlike all the others that claim to but last 5 minutes on me You do need to keep your arms up to let it dry.

I hate most regular deodorants. They leave a filmy coating under my arms. I use crystal deodorant, which was recommended by mumsnet. I prefer the roll on versions. Currently using crystal pit rock roll on which is great. When I stopped using regular deodorant it took about a week to fully scrub off the coating left by sure maximum protection.

Bicarbonate of soda. Works brilliantly for me, and I used to need a strong antiperspirant. Be careful though- some people have a skin reaction to it. I had no problems.

I also need something strong that actually works, but am concerned about the health implications of using strong pharmaceutical anti-perspirants.

I have an awesome recipe for natural deo that works really well for me -

6 tsp coconut oil
4 tsp baking soda
4 tsp cornflour
essential oils - I use lavender and tea tree

Mix baking soda and cornflour together in a medium sized bowl.
Mash in coconut oil with a fork until well mixed.
Add oils if desired.
Store in small glass jar.

To elaborate: my deoderant routine is quite simple now - just dust bicarbonate of soda on my armpits every morning. Not very much needed. If I forget one morning, it's not a huge problem as it lasts OK for 2 days. You still sweat, but there's no odour. I couldn't believe it when I tried it - I've been trying alternative deoderants for years without luck and I had given up and was not using anything - washing several times per day, avoiding artificial fabrics and still being slightly smelly, using antiperspirant on special occasions. But with bicarbonate of soda there is literally no smell at all.

The idea is probably that it makes your armpits alkaline and kills the bacteria. The antiperspirants work by clogging your pores and stopping you sweating. With an antiperspirant, the bacteria still exist, but they don't multiply because it's not a damp environment.

I've heard that some people get skin reactions with bicarbonate of soda, and that adding cornflour and coconut oil can help with that. So if you have sensitive skin, it might be better to try elevenfifteen's recipe than straight baking soda. Good luck. If it works for you you won't look back.

Where do you buy Vichy? Mitchum does the same to me, it irritates after using it it a few days.

I've used Mitchum stick for years but am now interspersing it with Nivea Stress Protect. I'm a sweaty betty and there is no way that I could mot use an antiperspirant.

Larger Boots do Vichy as do some other, usually independent, chemists. It tends to be with the other Vichy products rather than with the other deodorants.

Vichy all the way, the green/blue cap, smells lovely and works really well.
