Satchel size

I've been after one for a while, probably from Cambridge satchel or Leather Satchel company, but open to suggestion. I am an academic that lugs around A4 stuff, an ipad, occasionally a laptop. What size would people recommend? Any extras you would recommend?

You just misses the Zatchels sale!

I won't buy from the cambridge satchel after Julie Deane took out a lawsuit against Zatchels. She won but I still feel it was spiteful of her.

Anyway, from your description you need 14.5" to accommodate your belongings.

This gives you an idea of size

Try TK Maxx as my local branch have some Zatchels in the clerance section

PIVOT · 10/07/2014 08:29

The Zatchels look good and are loads cheaper. That changes things. The only thing I don't like about it is the tag on it but half the price of a Cambridge...hmm

Didn't realize there had been a lawsuit!

zatchels are gorgeous. You could email them about the tag. Maybe ask them to omit it from your satchel? Or do it before you buy. I would hurry though as the sale has been on a while and it will be finishing soon i will expect...and at those prices, you dont want to miss out.
I have an electric blue 11 inch Satchel, a brown 13 inch, a red metallic 13 inch, a gold solar sparkle at 11 inch, a green elephant one at 11 inch, a teal blue elephant at 13 inch. The 11 inch is less practical than the 13 inch. The 13 inch imo is better for everyday use. It will fit an ipad in. If you look on the site and even on you tube you will see what it fits. Its accurate. I love all my zatchels.

The sale is still on. I got a cracked metallic gold satchel and it arrived yesterday (with a free handle which I hadn't ordered!) - I am IN LOVE with it. Amazing quality and cost £38 (reduced from £128). They still have some with 70% off: www.zatchels.com/bags/summer-clearance.html

I bought a satchel from the Leather Satchel Company a few months ago and I love it! Their customer service was superb, they were happy to answer 100 stupid questions from me. They also sent little leather samples to help me decide on a colour! It took less than two weeks from I placed the order until it was delivered.

Mine is 12.5 inch, but I use it for a handbag with other the essentials. I think 15 inch would be best for A4 etc, 14 inch would probably be okay but I find the leather quite stiff so a wee but extra room would do no harm :)

If you email them the dimensions of your laptop they will make a recommendation... and they can do custom sizes if your laptop is an 'odd' size!

Have you looked at Scaramanga? I'm on the app so can't post links but if you search Scaramanga satchels you'll find them. I can't recommend them highly enough, they're amazing. I have six and DH has bought me my dream one (the large saddle bag) for my birthday next month! They do the classic ones like Cambridge etc but are cheaper I think. Their tan ones are my favourites though - my new saddle bag is HUGE! They are amazing quality too - I've got one which is six years old and still gorgeous. Plus they often have special offers on.

And no, I don't work for them Grin

justjuanmorebeer · 01/08/2014 00:14

I think you need 15 inch. I have 14.5 and it is ok for a4 but not laptop. They surprisingly don't give you that much space inside.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 01/08/2014 00:19

I cut the Zatchels tag off mine. You can't see where it was.

daimbardiva · 01/08/2014 08:54

I have a 13 inch and it's nit big enough for a4 and tablet. Go for 15 infh. They're not as roomy as you'd expect as they're so rigid.

monsterowl · 01/08/2014 10:07

If you want one that is softer and roomier inside, you could try a non-leather one from Vegetarian Shoes: www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/satchels/10072_0c.html

I have the red one and I love it to. It looks like leather, the material is really strong and 'wears' like leather, and because it's softer than the Zatchels one and the material is thinner, it's much easier to cram loads into. Could easily fit an iPad in there along with e.g. an A4 pad and a load of other stuff.

MotherBluestocking · 01/08/2014 11:30

I might be the only person in the world not to love satchels - but I have a Zatchels one (15" I think) and I find it very awkward to use as a combined handbag/work bag. Opening and closing it securely is a real faff and adding wallet etc makes it very bulky. Fine if you're just going from car to office and back but out and about - esp on public transport - you really need a second secure bag as well - which is too much admin for me.

Shia · 01/08/2014 11:49

Zatchels now offer magnetic closures so you don't have to gaff with buckles.

I buy from zatchels as the quality is superb and it's supporting a British manufacturer and retailer.
