Eyeshadow stress

Hi all..I need some eyeshadow help please if possible!

I'm bridesmaid later this year and wearing a burnt orange dress. We're looking at gold/bronze shoes/shawls and eyeshadows, but I've always found this colour palette doesn't suit me!

I have blue eyes, and am pale with dark blonde hair. I've always found that blues/silvers suit me best.

I've been experimenting a bit with some shades of gold and bronze, but each one has been greeted with 'What's wrong with your eyes?' from DH! A friend of mine has just told me I look ill/upset/tired when I have it on!

What can I do? Help!!

How about a cool gold, like Nars Cyprus or Mac Patina paired with a cool brown or purply-brown. Why not visit a Mac or Bobbi Brown counter and ask them?

Surely the bride can't dictate your eyeshadow???

Wear something neutral that suits you.

Milmingebag · 09/07/2014 09:51

Try peach or warm ivory.

I have similar colouring and find the rose gold colours in the urban decay naked 3 palette suit well

She hasn't really, but I want to match! was planning on visiting Mac actually, but difficult to arrange around DS.. I have a pewter colour I'd forgotten about which might be ok.. will check out some of those, thank you all! Grin

The Bobbi Brown long wear cream shadow sticks are brilliant. I have Vanilla which is a good creamy neutral base and you could add the bronze or golden bronze on top.

Wear an eyeshadow that suits rather than an eyeshadow that everyone else is wearing. I doubt there'll be an eyelid inspector on duty that day.

You could do a combination, maybe like this:

Or maybe just use a little bit of the golden colour somewhere on the lid or as a liner on the lower lash line. Blue and copper/gold go well together IMO so you should be able to get away with combining the colours.

The important thing is that it suits you. If the golden eyeshadow colours don't suit you even in tiny amounts, wear something else :)

Chantecaille sel as seen on this blogger's eyes (it's all she's wearing):

You can get it at SpaceNK for £19.50 plus del. It's a complex light to medium taupe - with very slight shimmer - that suits all and I can see it going with what you are wearing without emulating it and making you look tired etc...
If you have a Space NK near you you could ask them to try it on you instore.

You want to match the shadow to your outfit, even if that eyeshadow colour makes you look bad? Maybe I've misunderstood... :S

LackingCommonSense · 09/07/2014 21:01

Well no, I want to find something that matches but that also doesn't make me look bad... too much to ask d'you think?

I think Mac Patina might be promising...

with your colouring I'd have thought you'd really suit a brown shade of eyeshadow which would work well with your burnt orange dress and gold/bronze shoes.

sounds like you don't like (or think you suit) warm shades with red or gold though so why not try Bobbi Brown cement. It is a cool brown rather than warm toned. I think the brighter the dress and sparklier the shoes the more neutral the eyes need to be.

LackingCommonSense · 10/07/2014 08:14

Ooh I like that one too.. will see if there's a Bobbi Brown anywhere local..

Yeah Google tells me browns should suit me, but they really don't..I'm not sure why?! Confused

Bobbi Brown is really good for doing cool versions of warm colours and vice versa. So if you're warm toned and think you can't wear grey shadow, try BB's Grey, or if you're cool toned and can't wear brown, try Cement.

TheCraicDealer · 10/07/2014 12:18

I've got the same colouring as you- Bobbi Brown's eyeliner in bronze is a nice match for blue eyes.

Would definitely speak to one of the MAC make-up artists. They can make you up a bespoke palette of four eyeshadows which will match your colouring and show you how and where to apply them.
