I had hundreds in the 80s and now DD says she wants some, are they fashionable again.

Prince Harry's ex girlfriend was wearing one at Glastonbury last week so I suspect they are.

snoggle · 08/07/2014 08:53

I have no idea but how exciting! I had hundreds of homemade ones, in the same fabric as my homemade maxi skirts....

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 09:01

I've borrowed my mum's sewing machine and I think I'll run a few up for her. I used to think they were so pretty.

I have one, and I love it - adds a bit of bulk and interest to my hair when I put it up. Mine is from H&M.

kelda · 08/07/2014 09:14

I'm wearing one now, I always wear one, to put my hair in a lose bun. I had no idea they were 'in', that was entirely unintentional on my part.

Love the idea of matching them to long skirts! (I refuse to use the term maxi skirt).

kelda · 08/07/2014 09:14

Oops, need to get rid of the flag on my postSad

dexter73 · 08/07/2014 09:22

I used to make my own scrunchies from Liberty prints and would match them to the patches on my jeans. Ah, those were the days!

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 09:38

This got me to thinking when I was younger in the 80s how people used to try and have their own style now everyone seems to strive to look the same? Or is that because I'm old!

Lots of the girls wear them at gymnastics to match their leotards. I've never seen anybody wear out of gym, not lately.

MostWicked · 08/07/2014 09:57

I've never stopped wearing them.
I am completely oblivious to what is 'in' and 'out'

Greengardenpixie · 08/07/2014 10:01

My daughter has a scrunchie in the same fabric as her school summer dress. I had no idea they went 'out' really. I have seen them cleverly made out of a school tie though at our school summer fayre!

bigTillyMint · 08/07/2014 11:15

DD also has loads from gym. She wears them a lot at home when it is hot.

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 12:53

Well I've bought elastic lets see how many I make.

Saurus72 · 08/07/2014 13:55

I think they are 'in' if you are ironically hip. For women who are not, it's a look fraught with difficulties Wink

loopylady83 · 08/07/2014 13:57

ooo how do you make them?

Bluebell79 · 08/07/2014 14:19

I got a load in primark the other day for my little girl, very pretty. I wouldn't wear though.

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 14:47

Got all ready and stupid machine is playing up. I've made one by hand and DD seems pleased.

OP posts:
Rosa · 08/07/2014 14:51

i never stopped wearing them but don't co ordinate with my skirts though!!! Scrunchies just hold my hair up loosely and off my face when needed. have a black and white spotted one on my wrist right now.....

wellnowthenmardybum · 08/07/2014 15:47

Dd 14 came home from town with a pack, so I am assuming they must be

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 15:49

The vintage nineties (!) look is all the rage with da kidz.

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 16:13

I like to think I'm down with the kids!

DD has nice gingham ones to match her summer school dresses. Bunches are very cute on 7 yo's too.

FrancesFarmer · 08/07/2014 17:36

I've started wearing them of late - they are less damaging to hair than rubbery ponytail bands.

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 08/07/2014 18:08

I have had the same one for years and years, it hangs on the door handle in my bathroom and is used for tying my hair back for face washing, teeth brushing and general mooching around the house as it's non damaging to my hair.

It has however never seen the outside world since 1994 Grin
