How the hell do you get heated rollers to stay put???????

I am sitting here with rollers in, in an attempt to try them out and to see if the money i have spend is well spent or just another hair accessory that it completely useless to me. Well the clips are crap that come with it, so i googled up babyliss accessories and bought some hair pins from them. They are kind of an open metal pin but how on earth do i put them on the roller when my hair is wrapped up? I cant seem to get the hang of this! Im dissapointed as i so wanted them to work :( Advice please. They make it look so easy on you tube!

Haven't used them for years and years but when I did the clip went across the short side soooooo..

looking at the roller with the long side towards you, you push the clip over the roller- one arm of the clip goes under the roller next to your head the other goes over the top of it.
