Dress for a wedding but hate high st!

Ok, first point. I am not a hippy. Second point - I am not dissing hippies, nowt wrong with that style, but friends say I have an alternative style. What that actually is btw, I do not know. I tend to bung on clothes that are comfy and off I go.

I'm off to a wedding in a month and have absolutely no idea what to wear. I also hate the high street - I don't like the taylored, structured look. I suppose I'm after something a bit alternative, but don't know where to look.

Any suggestions?
Oh and if I could get away with wearing flip flops or a battered pear of tan Birkenstocks to the wedding, I probably would. DH would probably divorce me though.

Look up Nicola Quilter. I'm on a new iPad and have yet to learn links!
She does great skirts that you could maybe make an outfit out of. I have several and they're great. They come I several lengths too.

Ebay something vintage?

FauxFox · 04/07/2014 05:29

What height/size are you and what colours do you like? And what's your budget? I'm wondering if a maxi dress is the answer...for a start nobody would be able to see your shoes if you went for a real floor skimmer Smile

They have loads of vintage style dresses, tea dresses etc

You could probably get away with flip flops like these.

Look at Not on the High St. They have some lovely vintage looking dresses.

I've just bought a dress from Laura Ashley. I only wear stuff that feels nice against my skin and lots of their fabrics are lovely and soft.

What about something from Boden? They have structured things, but also things which seem fairly loose fitting, like this one:

spotted dress

Or this one

You could easily wear either dress with a pair of bright flat sandals (like the model in the first picture), but you would need to add a fascinator or something to make it more "wedding".

Etsy has lots of interesting handmade and vintage options like these...

vintage 70s
vintage 20s

Look at boohoo.com and bonprix.com
or asos.com
Loads of different dresses on those sites.
Even missguided.co.uk - but that's a bit more young and trendy

Try Masai Clothing. Vaguely hippy but lovely fabrics.
I have just bought this dress and darker trousers.
