Help! need ideas to update / accessorise lb for a wedding reception

We have been invited to a wedding reception at the end of the month. Money is tight at the moment so I am unable to afford a new outfit so will have to wear something I already own. I have a simple black dress, that I have owned for probably 10 years Blush and I am looking for ways to accessorise or wear it so it doesn't feel like a 10 year old dress!

Any ideas would be appreciated. Although please bear in mind I am neither creative or crafty so anything that involves alterations or attaching things will be completely beyond me Smile

Thank you

There seems to be a general feeling on here that black is a no-no for weddings, so if this really is the only suitable dress you have or can get, the accessories etc should aim to introduce colour, I would think - eg, by introducing a bright such as cobalt blue ( what brights suit will depend on your colouring).

Alternatively you could spend any money you can afford on a new, non-black dress and accessorise it partly or comwith things you already have.
However, there are a lot of people on here with masses more creative talent and ideas than me.

Dratted phone! 'completely', not 'comwith'.

polyhymnia thank you. Re the black, it is quite an informal wedding and the couple are quite laid back about these sorts of things plus with it being the evening only I tough it might be okay although I appreciate what you are saying.

I do have one other dress however I have worn this for the last 4 events I have been to (2 weddings, a 4th and a 60th) so was hoping to give it a miss this time.

Re existing accessories, I don't particularly have any. I am pretty useless at putting an outfit together and at almost 40 I still haven't found my own personal style (which is a whole other thread) so don't tend to have much more than the basics.

I was hoping I could maybe update with some sort of belt with coordinating shoes and bag maybe?
