I like clothes, my figure is ok and I've had my colours done. I enjoy looking smart and put-together but none of my clothes make me look forward to wearing them.

I have a lot of basics - tees, plain jumpers, smart black and smart navy trousers, plain navy and plain black blazers for example but not much else.

How do I know what to buy next to make it sing?

Also, what shoes work with straight-leg, smart navy trousers please?

It kind of sounds like you have a very basic, safe, yet boring wardrobe at the moment. You need some more colour, and colours that will all work together to give you more choice.
I'd recommend:

Dark denim jeans (indigo) in a cut that looks amazing on you.

A few sets of comfortable ballet flats - you can get a bright pair, a sparkly/fancy pair, and a pair in a neutral colour and these will go with pretty much everything.

One or two pairs of flip flops - at least one cheap bog standard pair, and one strappy slightly nicer pair.

A couple of gorgeous skirts - there are some beautiful ted baker ones at the moment, and I've seen a pale blue one in coast that made me sad that I can't shop at the moment!

A nice blouse in cream or white or otherwise neutral colour, which should go with both the jeans and all skirts.

A couple of vest tops in pale neutral colours, and a couple in brighter colours.

A summer maxi dress, or maxi skirt - always convenient

At least two other dresses - one in a neutral colour (navy, black, grey, whatever) that you can dress up or down, and will also be suitable for work, and one in a stronger colour or print that you can dress up for weddings.

It's great that you've had your colours down, as you'll have a better idea of what sort of things to look out for. Try and make sure that you don't buy things in clashing colours, as that prevents you from mixing them with other things.

I think you need some accessories - scarves and necklaces. Or fab shoes.

With my navy ankle grazers I either wear a pair of Ruby Shoo shoe-boots in blue with floral detail, or flat gladiators.

currently bf my DD and she decided to press send! The cons of touchscreens...

Anyway I found it really interesting looking at all the looks and styles I like and trying to make up a few of the outfits with my existing wardrobe to see what else I need. So far I've invested in a beautiful leather jacket and some grey jeans :)

Great suggestions - thanks!

A special thankyou kay for helping me to see where the holes are, really useful!

I like the idea of ballet flats, I have a honey coloured suede pair I wear with jeans but never thought to wear with anything else. I always think smart trousers, dresses and skirts need heels.
