Wedding Day Perfume

Just a bit of a nosey thread...I'm getting married in Vegas later this year and I'm searching for a lovely perfume for the big day. I usually only wear perfume in the evenings and normally opt for Alien - not sure it's very bridal though.

So what is your day-to-day/favourite perfume and did you wear it on the big day. If not, what did you wear?

I wore marc Jacobs daisy the black bottle on my wedding day. its one I've worn before but I am very fickle with perfumes. I also like dkny pure.

overmydeadbody · 02/07/2014 17:12

I will be wearing Penhalagons Malabah on my wedding day. DP pwill be wearing another of their scents. The best thing about them is that they can mix well together and they are unisex (and I like a good excuse to buy a new bottle from Penhalagons.

purplepingu · 02/07/2014 17:16

I wore Jo Malone Peony and Blush.

A tip for you- lift up your dress and spray perfume on the lining. It will smell nice as you walk up the aisle :)

MrsBungle · 02/07/2014 17:17

I wore Vera wang, princess. I was going to wear my usual but dh sent a present in the morning containing it so I used it instead.

florascotia · 02/07/2014 17:27

I wore Balmain's Jolie Madame - old but (IMHO) fabulous, tho' not everyone likes it: www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Pierre-Balmain/Jolie-Madame-3817.html

If you prefer something more splendidly floral, then this -smells wonderful! - was created for filmstar Grace Kelly to wear at her wedding:
www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Creed/Fleurissimo-4250.html

Other people interested in scents will know more than me, but you might find it interesting to try out lots of different samples before your wedding day, and small samples of all kinds of lovely scents can be purchased cheaply from places such as:

www.lessenteurs.com

www.scent-and-sensibility.co.uk/

www.allaviolettaboutique.com/

www.parfumneroli.hu/?lang[lang]=en

There are many other online sellers of perfume samples.

icanmakeyouicecream · 02/07/2014 18:16

I'm wearing what I always wear, Chanel Mademoiselle

AuntySib · 02/07/2014 18:17

Chanel no.5. Always feels special.

ThisBitchIsResting · 02/07/2014 20:01

I wore Alien on my wedding day ! I love if and think it's romantic and glamorous and has good staying power. Maybe not the best branding for a bride though!

I'd go for Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb I think if I was to do it all over again. Or Chanel but not sure which one, I just think Chanel and weddings seem like a good match.

SliceWithIce · 02/07/2014 20:31

Thanks everyone for your replies.

ThisBitch (sounds horrible saying that!) Glad to hear you wore Alien, not sure my OH would want me to wear anything else but I want something different for the day!

Thanks flora for the recommendations and links, will check them out and order some samples.

That's a great tip about spray the lining purple.

I do love Chanel but they don't seem to work with my skin.

ThisBitchIsResting · 02/07/2014 20:34

I treated myself to a gift set of Alien that included the body lotion and shower gel - would that perhaps work? I know it's more of a treat to get something new, but if Alien is 'your smell' maybe you should stick to that.

MissBattleaxe · 02/07/2014 20:41

You say Chanels don't work on your skin, but consider Chanel Cristalle or Cristalle Eau Verte. They are totally different from other "richer" Chanels: green and light and citrussy. I wore Cristalle on my wedding day and have no regrets.

Also, I always think anything tuberose or gardenia is a good bet for weddings. They make me think of dense white bouquets. Try Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose and Gardenia.

Oh and Jo Loves No 42 The Flower Shop is glorious! It's made by Jo Malone who set up another perfume business after selling Jo Malone the business for mega bucks.

Only1scoop · 02/07/2014 20:42

Chanel chance eau tendre ....beautiful

ApplebyMennym · 02/07/2014 20:47

I wore Miss Dior Cherie. It was the perfume I was wearing when DH and I first met, he bought me a bottle especially to wear on the day with the matching shower gel.

I love it, it's sweet and light without being (in my opinion) sickly and teenage.

Cardinal · 02/07/2014 20:55

Do you have something your DH likes? Mine always loved a specific one, even though I cycled between two, he finds one of them incredibly memorable and triggering (in a good way).

It was the one I wore the first time we had sex :)

Kundry · 02/07/2014 21:16

I wore Fracas by Robert Piguet. I love it and spent ages choosing it. Second choice would have been Femme by Rochas.

Unfortunately I got married on the hottest day of the year and smelled mainly of sweaty polyester Sad

Apatite1 · 02/07/2014 21:19

I'm a hard core fume head. On my wedding day, I wore no perfume. I totally forgot!

If I got a rerun, I'd wear Carnal Flower (Frederic Malle) or Pure White Cologne (Creed)

lilolilmanchester · 02/07/2014 21:27

Estée lauder's Beautiful.

catacats · 02/07/2014 22:17

Yes me too I wore Estée launders beautiful
but then it was the early nineties when I got married. It was supposedly princess Diana's favourite perfume.
I still love that scent and whenever I wear it am always asked what perfume I'm wearing.

bouquetofpencils · 02/07/2014 23:26

I wore Jo Malones Red Roses in memory of my grandma Rose, as a way to have her with me on the day.

drivenbyyou · 03/07/2014 02:54

White Suede, Tom Ford. I love Tuscan Leather but thought it was a bit too masculine for my wedding.

Not too overpowering and lasted all day (and night).

kaykayblue · 03/07/2014 09:05

I haven't decided! It's between;

Chanel COCO Mademoiselle (a beautiful and very classic fragrance hard to dislike)

Chanel ALLURE sensuelle (it's much heavier than above and very "woody". I'm getting married in winter so might be able to pull it off)

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet (very light, very floral and very pretty. I actually got this by mistake when someone bought me the wrong perfume, but it became one of my absolute favourites!)

Blueuggboots · 03/07/2014 09:24

Ok, I'm probably going to get flamed but......

Alien makes me want to vomit. It is migraine inducing and honestly makes me feel very ill when I smell it on people.
Viktor and Rolf flowerbomb is much nicer but I couldn't wear it myself due to the migraine problem

I think a more gentle approach to fragrance on your wedding day would be better - layering it if necessary by using other products with the same scent?

Blueuggboots · 03/07/2014 09:26

Also, I was once advised to use perfume or eau de parfum of you find fragrances don't last on you. They are oil based rather than water based so last longer.

SliceWithIce · 03/07/2014 11:43

Thanks for all the replies, I love any wedding talk so this is keeping me very entertained.

BlueUgg Perfume is such a personal thing, I adore Alien but find Angel gives me a horrible nauseous headache. I love Flowerbomb but it's my SIL's signature scent and I don't really want to remind my husband of his sister on our wedding day.

MissBattleaxe I will try your Chanel recommendations, I need to go to a counter with an open mind as my Mum and Nan both wear Chanel and I find them quite heavy.

Cardinal My OH loves Alien, it was what I was wearing when we first met, I might end up wearing it yet but I would quite like to find another fragrance that I can wear the whole trip and have it remind me of our wedding/honeymoon.

Thanks again for your recommendations, especially the more unusual ones. I'm going to make a list and try and test as many as possible (although maybe bouquet's recommendation as I can't stand the smell of rose...sorry!)
