Dress for a wedding

I need help please. The dress I want to wear for a wedding doesn't fit and I don't think I'll lose the weight in time for the wedding.

I am a size 16/18 but mainly because of my ridiculous lower belly, I seriously look a few months pregnant, it sticks out further that the rest of me.

I don't want to spend a lot of money but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I have been on a few websites and I've found a few on the New Look website including some skater dresses but I'm not sure if they'll be too short, I don't have fantastic legs but I don't want anything too long.

I also quite like this but I'm not sure if it's dressy enough. I also like this. There are more similar but you get the idea. Will they work for me?

I am 5ft 4, pale with dark hair.

Thanks in advance.

I think something with more structure would give you a better shape, though a fit-and-flare style does sound like it would suit you. Do you like any of these?
blue untold (the fuller skirt should give you a lovely waist and hide tummy)
wallis floral (The pattern and tie waist should be flattering)
red kaliko (the tailoring on this could work well for you)
navy and white floral (v neck is great to draw the eye esp if you are busty)
plant blue lace bargain (with illusion side panels to give you a great shape)

Thank you, they are all lovely. I think my favourites are the first and the last but probably mainly the first. Will it not make me look biger on th bottom though? I suppose anything I wear will because I am and this on is meant to look like that?

I'm not used to this body shape so I'm really struggling. The person I normally shop with thinks if your a larger size you should just wear something massive and floaty with no shape which I hate.

The first one was my favourite too - it won't make your bum look big it will give you an hourglass silhouette Smile

Big floaty things make bigger people look big and floaty, only very slim people can really get away with those styles as they sort of drape over the frame then. Structure, shape and accentuating your best bits is the answer imo.

Thank you, I will definately try at least the first one and go from there. Its got more of a pattern to it that I would normally wear but I had already decided to try something different.

Also (still clueless), what colour shoes and bag would you wear?

Thanks for your help.

purple shoes
neutral bag
and I like the card/shrug they styled it with too. If you were wearing a hat i'd go for a natural neutral colour.

I LOVE those shoes and I like the fit of new look shoes. On my computer the dress is showing as a more blue and green than purple, I only noticed the colour description as purple when I saw the shoes you linked to. I've ordered it into the shop anyway so I'll see what the colours like. I normally try and match the shoes with the colour of the dress which is why I asked but I've seen people with ones that don't match the dress work too.

Thanks again for all of your help, fingers crossed this one fits ok. I've ordered a 16 and an 18 to see how they fit.

I thought the dress was blue too but even if it is I think the purple will go, the model is wearing pinky purple shoes with it and that seems to work but I think the plummy purple NL ones will be better Grin Fingers crossed you love it when you try it on x

I picked it up and it's a bit small Sad. I can't reach properly to fasten it all the way up thought so I don't know if I'm fighting a losing battle yet or not. I need to wait until DH is in then he can fasten it for me and I can see if I can breathe! Fingers crossed.
