So I've been 'prescribed' Fit Flops - which ones?

Podiatrist has diagnosed my foot pain as a symptom of short/tight calves and so my beloved Havaianas have to go and a heeled Fit Flop or similar type recommended instead. Could have been worse as was expecting orthotics but which are the 'prettiest' style, most 'stylish' and at shoe size 5.5 should I size up or down? X

I need to size up in these personally.

Difficult to recommend unless you say what you want them for, as they have a range of sandals, loafers, etc.

Why don't you have a browse on their website and see which you fancy. Then if you want to check out particular styles, someone on here often seems to have tried them.

I love the webbing type flip flops, they are the only sandals that were comfortable to walk miles round Venice in. Bliss for my dodgy knees, birkenstocks, havaianas etc make my knees and feet hurt within minutes. I'm 5.5 and buy size 6. I also have the clog type ones for winter and am hoping to get some of the trainers.

I have two pairs but they are sooooooooooo comfortable!

I have the banda in tan and the banda slide in black.

I have one plain pair and a second set covered in bling for summer evenings. They're ££££ but tend to get reduced in the summer sales. I absolutely love mine - they're like walking on cushions!

I've a pair of black ones with a red toe post. They go with just about everything.

Love my Fitflops.
I don't "do" flip flops though, so have the 2 bar sandal types.
They are like walking on squashy air.

Yes there should be some bargains in the sales atm,including some of last year's styles. Try Cloggs, Shoetique, etc.

I have several FF boots ( not much help for now), some of their sneakers, and various sandals, all non toe post as I can't wear those (most recently the Bon Easy in tan, plus some in bronze). All really comfortable.

I have the webbing type (I'm actually on my second pair) and they are very comfortable. I've bought some of the slides this year, and they're not quite as comfortable. To be honest I'd probably buy several more pairs if they weren't so expensive.

I just need them for everyday summer, walking to school, doing the shopping etc instead of the dead flat flips I usually wear. I think the brown will go with everything and didn't want to risk toe post style until I get to the shops to try.

I might go for some mukluks this winter as Uggs are now on the banned list too.

Ooh I have been thinking about the same thing, am waiting for physio on dodgy ankle/knee/hip which I think might be to so with stratospherically high foot arches - I feel so much better wearing my moulded insoles. So do fit flops sort of offer the same support?

My dodgy knee is the result of really high arches too, dancers feet apparently, I wish I'd got the good dancing bit instead I just get the painful hips, knees and ankles. Fitflops are the only thing that helps.

Haha wish I got the dancing skills too NCIS! Ok well maybe I have diagnosed myself correctly then. It's only in my right leg though

Started in my right leg too, is now a bit sore in the left but not as bad as the right. Really struggle if I have to wear posh shoes.

Amazon often have good deals in fit flops. I have five pairs.
Prescribed as well. Much more supportive than flip flops.

Mine are the comfiest thing I have ever worn, I have a black sequined pair which are brilliant for everyday or a bit dressier. Only problem is that I fall over easily when wearing them, don't ask me how or why but I have fallen or turned my ankle several times when wearing them

I have the lulu leather in pewter. I like them I got them cheaper than usual on amazon they are no way worth the full price. I. Too fell over when I first got them!

I think they are true to size. My feet are tiny though I can wear a 2.5 but am mostly a 3. I got a 3 and they're fine.

I wouldn't recommend them for loads of walking. Went on a citybreak recently and felt I could have done with more ankle support. Looked at their sandals. They are hideous!

Not sure about support they offer but they will put my foot at a slight angle which means I'm not pulling on my calf muscle constantly which is aggravating my Achilles and tendon across length of my foot. I'm slightly worried about falling off them as I also walk slightly over on my right foot which is why I steered away from slim toe post style for now. On another note I went straight from the podiatrist to a specialist running shop and spent a good 40 mins being assessed for proper running trainers, on a treadmill, gait assessed etc it was a revelation and hopefully my jogging efforts will be more comfortable now too.

Btw, re the dancing, my problems could be connected with growing up horse riding :)

Cherry pie gait assessment was a revelation to me too, loved it! They showed me that when I raised my toes only the ball and heel of my foot touch the ground whereas in most people they would have something touching the ground in the main bit of the foot - normal footprint shape. No wonder us high-archers have ishoos!

Calf/Achilles prob sounds horrid, hope the shoes help and you manage not to fall off them!!

Thanks Bree. I'm just fed up of hobbling about so have spent the day trying to sort finally after ignoring for too long. It's amazing (although not surprising really) how much foot and leg problems can affect the whole body.

Got to have hardcore sports massage to loosen calves up too-ouch!

Surprised a podiatrist recommended any type of fit flop -- I've they are bad for you feet.

Better to have heel control -- so Fitflops with a strap so you are not clenching toes trying to keep them on.

I'll let podiatrist know, she's only one of the best in Hampshire.
