French summer wedding help!

I'm going to a wedding in France and I've no idea what to wear! If any of you know what the French wear to weddings please help me

This is what I know...
It's in the countryside (not Paris)
There is no dress code (I'm sure this is not true, it's just not a published one)
I've been encouraged to wear "colour and flowers"
Apparently some of the (French) guests will probably wear fascinators
The cocktails are on grass so I've been told to avoid heels (no heels but fascinators...???)

Help!

I had that dilemma at a wedding in Canada - wedding in garden so heels were a no no. I ended up buying nice wedges in New Look. I have since found out that you can buy clear plastic covers that go on the bottom of your heel to stop you sinking into the grass.
What is your budget for a dress ?

I went to my friends wedding in the countryside in France. Outfits ranged from a red floor length ballgown to what I can only describe as gardening clothes! So I would probably go for something fairly low key, say a flowery dress to fit in with the theme, but I wouldn't wear a hat or fascinator. And flats or wedges.

BTW the red ballgown was worn because of 'issues' with the bride and a serious need to upstage her!

I lived in France for half my life. Believe me, the French, especially the provincial French, do NOT go to town on dresses. Wear what you would to a wedding here and you will look utterly fantastic. The men will look like Bill and Ben and the women 'weed'. I am not joking. Enjoy!

I tend to just wear a knee length shift dress and matching jacket, usually cotton or linen. Statement necklace, kitten heels, sometimes a fascination or flower tucked into a bun.

Those shoemate things look good but how do they stay on? I'm notorious for losing things like that, generally just one! Wedges could work though, if I can find non clumpy ones, good idea.

Budget? I suppose up to about £150 if I could get some more wear out of it later...

Low key is good, I can do low key. I'm worried I'll be too low key though and fail to pull off an insouciantly elegant French sort of low key look though (although trying to remind myself that we're talking countryside not Paris here). I'm over-thinking this aren't I? It doesn't help that it has to be baby proof and breastfeeding friendly as well.

This is all very reassuring. I'm feeling better about something simple.

What about maxi dresses? I have a lovely one I wore to a beach wedding abroad a few years ago. It's cream, is that a no no? (although not bridal in the slightest) It wasn't a problem last time as it was my best friend and she didn't care about such things.
