Ghds just caught on fire!

And scared the life out of me. They hadn't been on very long and heard crackling sound, as I pulled them away from my hair there was sparks and small flames coming round from under one of the plates.

They are only 2 years old and are the wide plate version.

I've phoned ghd and they want me to post them to them.

So, has this happened to anyone else, and can anybody recommend a cheap version that work well?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to ask but are you sure they're genuine? Mine are still going strong after 7 or so years. Did you buy them from a high street hairdresser or off eBay?

Hi, yes they are genuine. My DH bought them for me a couple of christmas's ago, and when I called Ghd they needed the codes to verify them.

It's worth getting them mended. Mine started sparking where the flex joins on. Sent them away, they've been great for the last four years (they're 12 altogether!)

Blimey that's a bit scary and dangerous.

Just send them to GHD, they're good at replacing stuff and it doesn't cost anything.

I think their quality has gone downhill in recent years; I have a pair bought in 2008 that are still going strong, but my sister has a set she's been using (very lightly) on her short hair and they've just stopped heating up.

I have never used GHD's - personally find them majorly overpriced.

Plus they never seem to glide through my hair ( I have fine hair but a lot of it!) I just don't like how they feel.

Years ago i was browsing ebay for a cheaper and good alternative and found Jolie hair straightners. (Haha I promise this isn't a plug!)

My first set lasted me about 4 - maybe 5 years. Then I went back on ebay and got another pair! Love them. For me, they are perfect for my hair but I guess everyone has their preferences.

Here they are on Amazon but its worth checking ebay for them too! I find they curl my hair better than GHDs - again I find they glide through my hair without any awkward pulling.

Not many people know about them.

Give them a try!
