Shoe colour for a job interview

I have a job interview booked for next week after a bit of a career break (ahem!). Naturally, I'm starting the preparations by worrying about the shoes...

I'm planning on wearing a light grey (suit) dress with a navy blazer purchased a couple of months ago... only I didn't think of shoes. I have a few old, well-used black office type shoes, but that is it.

Can I wear black shoes? Or do I need grey/nude ones - it being the height of summer and all? And finally, which colour tights?

Any advice gratefully received...

It depends on the job I think, and how important image is for it.

Black would probably be fine, but if you want to buy new ones, I quite like these Ben de Lisi ones which are reduced.

Definitely skin coloured tights.

Thanks Beryl. It's an admin job in a school, btw.

I think that nude tights definitely, and probably nude or grey shoes. Having said that I honestly don't think there's any need to splash out on a new pair so I wouldn't bother if you don't have any. I work on media where it's ridiculously image conscious, and I can honestly say that in 15 years of conducting interviews, I have never noticed the shoes of an interviewee - unless they're exceptionally gorgeous and I've coveted them. As long as the rest of you looks smart and you wear a smile, it really won't matter one jot.

Good luck Thanks

Can't remember shoes except when scuffed un polished or one person who ripped a heel off on a step and loomed in ....

Hahaa, point taken janey and foot. There probably are other aspects of the interview I should be focusing on...

Do you have a white, cream or indeed any blouse that you could wear under the suit dress? That'd be great with black shoes and cooler than a blazer in this weather.

While of course there are other things to be focusing on you may feel more confident if you are confident about your outfit.

Good luck!!!

Oh gosh I didn't mean it like that Blush I'm sure you will be brilliant and don't need to focus on anything else at all! I simply meant please don't let this stress you out as it's not worth worrying about Smile
