Swimming cap- one that keeps the water out

Have had straightening treatment in my hair but want to take my children in the pool without worrying about it. Any swimming caps (doesn't matter how fugly) that keep the water out vs trap some inside?

bump, planning to take up swimming again and will need the same!

ideally not with huge flowers...

i swam competitively for about 10 years and can safely tell you that there's no swim cap which is substantially better than another at keeping the water out- it's mainly in how you tie your hair up inside and how far you pull the cap down! all a hat does is streamline you/stop hair getting everywhere, if your head's underwater your hair's likely to get pretty wet anyway. so, twist your hair into as tight a bun as you can before you put the hat on and pull the hat down at the back/forehead/temples! a really plain moulded silicone one was always the most comfy for me (ie www.swimshop.co.uk/speedo-plain-moulded-silicone-cap-aquatic-blue)

great advice, thank you. If hair will get wet anyway, is it worth bothering with a cap?

I also used to swim competitively and agree with the comments above but we use to wear two caps when training. It won't keep your hair dry but it will help with keeping the chlorine out of your hair.

Its never as soggy when wearing a cap, and after the advice on pulling hair into a tight bun I can leave the pool after a quick smooth with the towel (I run home) and no drips. I think its better for your hair too as its not like fresh chlorine swishing through all the time

ah, that's the idea. Having discovered the holy grail of permanent straightening, I am rather more fussy about looking after my hair!

I will be investigating purchase of a cap!

Thank you all! Really useful tips!

Will pull hair back tightly and double up a silicone jobby.

I wear this one Grin

Bought slightly as a joke by my kids for me, and worn with pride every week, it is thicker than normal caps and keeps my hair dry better than anything I have used before.

It makes people laugh too :D

Medusa, I'm actually ... pat emptied. If I'm going to put a vindim on my head, I may as well make a statement and have some fun!
