Shampoo for flakey (possible psoriasis) scalp

I need something from a Pharmacy ( though I would go to the GP if need be)

14.6 DS . He has short hair, not greasy.
But a really flakey scalp, doesn't look like dandruff (my mother has psoriasis though it's 99% clear now, so I'm baseing my guess on that)

Tried T-Gel (too drying, made the skin on his face like sandpaper)
Tried SebaMed, doesn't do much.

Any recommendations what I can buy tomorrow?
No allergies known

DD1 had similar problem. We bought a solid shampoo from Lush. Can't remember it's name and it was a bit smelly but was fab and it worked. If you ask in shop they will know it.

DH & DS have same problem and Boots sensitive skin baby shampoo works a treat. Gentle so doesn't dry out scalp.

Alphosyl? Oilatum? It is a matter of trial and error sometimes as to what works for you. Oilatum one is expensive so maybe try Alphosyl first.

I have a crusty/flaky scalp and use the l'oreal mens anti dandruff intensive shampoo. Black bottle with an orange bit on the lid.
I have tried pretty much every other shampoo going, and this is the only one that works for me. It's great from the first wash and my hair is lush and shiny.

I've just started using Barefoot Botanicals SOS shampoo/conditioner. I'm not as flaky (as good as any other dandruff shampoo) but I don't itch anymore which is bloody fantastic.

Tis pricey though.

I have psoriasis, the only thing that keeps it at bay is betnovate scalp. It might be worth getting it checked as all the recommended brands for flakey scalp made mine so much worse, and you ds is at such an image conscious age I'd want to check with a dr.

The L'oreal orange cap one is the only one that's ever worked consistently on mine. Blue capped one was useless. I must have spent a fortune last year alone on every type of medicated/natural/prescription strength/Kingsley shampoo and oil available!

Oh I should also mention if you want to try the Alphosyl it is not with all the other shampoos in Boots (well not where I live anyway) it is for some odd reason in a separate place in the store with medicated shampoos and skincare so ask them if you cant find it. It does say on it that it is to treat psoriasis so it might be worth a try. But as you can see from the responses so far, it really is a case of different ones working for different people.

I second lush, my dh used a solid bar one from lush after I described his symptoms to shop assistant and this stopped his psoriasis after everything from gp failed.

It's very much trial and error. The most success I have had is from orange cap loreal. Mine is for men though. Prior to using this I had a lot of psoriasis plaques. I used davonex initially, followed by loreal to clear the flakes.

Anything without SLS works for me. I used to have a flakey scalp but in the 10 years since I've been using SLS free shampoo it's not been an issue

Try asking Flaky Fashionista, she is a psoriasis sufferer and may have some suggestions as well.

try rinsing his hair with apple cider vinegar or he can take it in capsule form each day it works wonders. GP will also prescribe lotions and shampoos that work they need to see he has it first my DH went to get some and as he had shaved his head his psoriasis had cleared up a bit so they didn't think he had it also try combing his hair with a metal toothed nit comb i do this on DH all the time i actually find it fun rooting through his scalp and prizing the skin flakes off and his head feels amazing afterwards

Try nizoral shampoo. The shampoo bar from lush is also helpful (Seanik??).
If neither help I think the gp is the next step.

You need the loreal black stuff, it's in the 'men's' shampoo section .

I have scalp psoriasis, I second liquid betnovate as a good option to get rid of it - have it checked out to see if it really is psoriasis!

What also works is rubbing coconut oil (or argan oil or olive oil - but nice natural stuff) into the scalp in the evening and then use a really mild shampoo in the morning. Best to avoid products with sodium laureth sulfate in them, like Elvive. I'd recommend Aveda Scalp Benefits Shampoo, or shampoos from Holland and Barretts.

I'm pretty sure it's not dandruff, having lived in a family where psoriasis is fairly common, it fits the criteria.

Of course it would help if the little toad didn't absent-mindedly scratch his skull

I use the Nitty Gritty on him after he's shampooed and extra-rinsed.
He's very judgey but hey he's a teen .

I've tried everything on this thread including various topical applications from GP which even she didn't have much faith in but as it stands the I'm having success with Liz Earle
haters gonna hate shampoo and conditioner and the milder scalp application as and when necessary

I really rate philip Kingsley itchy flakey scalp shampoo. Loyal for 5 years and come from a family full of psoriasis sufferers. My head itches if I don't use it for a week and I can scrap masses of greasy flakey goo off my head. Using this I am clean as a whistle. Also comes in 1litre bottles with a pump action for dosing out and not having to buy every 5 mins.

Suffered p on scalp for over 5 years. Tried every lotion (prescribed or otc). UV treatment - vits, you name it. Decided to start taking a spoon of apple cider vinegar per day (must have the mother) and coconut oil on scalp overnight. Argan oil is good too. 3 months later all gone. Have full head of hair back 6 months later. Try it and good luck.
