I've never really cared much about my nails. I bit them, and dry skin meant that I generally had horrible cuticles. If ever I put on nail varnish it chipped within hours.

But I have decided to set aside up to 45 minutes twice a week to give myself really good nails.

So far I have been working on cuticle removal, trying to remember to put on hand cream and shaping my nails.

I am not very good at the shaping yet. Is there a good YouTube tutorial anywhere? I want to keep them simple, short and rounded.

Next for the polish. I'm not sure what to go for. I want something that looks polished but doesn't really stand out. I quite like the look of the taupey nudes, so I was thinking of something like Yummy Mummy by Butter. Do you have any recommendations?

What about top coats? I know that some people rave about Seche Vite, but I've heard it contains some unsavoury ingredients. Is there a good alternative?

Finally, is there anything else I should be doing for general nail and hand care?
