Converting bras to nursing bras?

A while ago I was on an interesting thread about converting normal underwired bras to nursing bras with kits you can buy online. I can't now find it and my advanced search skills are obviously lacking as I can't think of any keywords that don't return a million irrelevant results!

Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent website to buy them from?

Don't, the clips are just a pain, it's easier just to push an ordinary bra out the way.

Ooh no. I hear people say that but I just slice my nipples! Don't know why it doesn't work for me.

This is dc3 and I am planning to convert my underwired bras in bigger pregnancy sizes. Even if I stuff it up, they wouldn't get used again so it is no loss.

I've done it using bikini clips I found on sale in hobbycraft & a little piece of elastic. Took a while to get used to re-clipping but my bra is sturdy enough that I can just pull the cup back up & it'll stay put for a few minutes until I can use both hands if I struggle with one.

I only discovered this when DS2 was about 7 months & had stopped feeding from one side altogether so I only converted one strap. I love it!

There are several tutorials on internet, just google "convert nursing bra". Dead easy. And you can find clips on ebay. here:

Trouble was, I could feed discretely enough, but it all went to pot needing two hands to do up the stupid clip and a third to hold the baby.

Feeding bras are a necessary evil when you have cracked nipples and a very small difficult to latch baby, but they quickly become very irritating.

And OK DD2 did feed until she could tell me off for wearing underwired bras, that were harder for her to get out the way.

I've converted normal underwired bras to nursing bras. It's dead easy and dead quick and kits cost about £5 on eBay. Think I bought them for a seller called nsounds. She will I very a bra for you for about £10 I think.

It was an absolute revelation to me and one of the reasons I'm still bf at 8 months. My J cups couldn't cope without wires

Nocomet - See I can hoick and clip one handed . However, I cannot feed in a normal bra as the fabric slowly slides back across my nipple, slicing it and really annoying the baby as their food disappears . When I was just feeding morning and night I went back to normal bras, but literally had to undo the back clasp, which is fine in your bedroom, but not so great in a café!

I never managed one handed, cheap unstructured Mothercare bras. The clip ran away if you didn't hold the strap with the other hand.

I'd end up dumping baby on DH and going to the ladies so I could hoik my top up or down and see the stupid things. This clearly defeats the point of paying extra for feeding bras.

Anyway I hope you succeed in your search. Comfortable bras make life so much nicer.

Absolutely! I fed both my older children to about 2 and invested in some Anita underwired nursing bras to avoid massive matronly bosom, but they are on their last legs and I have a whole pile of underwired bras in pregnancy sizes just sitting there. I have my ebay links now. Wish me luck, I am a rubbish seamstress!
