Foundation help please!!

Oh lovely S&B gurus, you saved my skin a few months ago by telling me off for using wipes and exfoliating too often. I switched to Superdrug Radiance Hot Cloth (tried C&P and Clinique Take the Day off but didn't like them) and after a good nose of Caroline Hirons' blog I also use an exfoliating toner, two (!!) different serums, and two different hideously expensive moisturisers. My skin is plump, soft, smooth and glowing. Lovely.

Now I need help with foundation! I've been using Bare Minerals for about five years, but have recently started to feel like it's dulling my skin. I'd like something that gives me more of that elusive glow! I got a few samples, with limited success - Maybelline put something in their foundations which makes my entire face go red and my eyes sting, and REN bb cream made me look orange.

I really want something that's light and dewy - will I need to put a powder over the top to 'set' it? I'm not crazy about powder and prefer to use creamy highlighters and blushers from Benefit so think powder doesn't really mix with that. That's half the problem I'm having with Bare Minerals!

Any and all advice gratefully received :) For reference, I am fair, with a few freckles and scars but I'm not too bothered about covering them up. My skin is pretty sensitive and also I sweat on my face Blush when I'm nervous, hot or stressed, so I need something which won't slide off at the first hint of a blush!

Bellapierre mineral makeup. Much softer and more airbrushed looking then BM and much kinder to skin (less cheap "filler" ingredients).

I used to useLily Lolo mineral MU but as I got older (40+-) and my oily skin dried out, it wasn't flattering or glowy.

Tried Bellapierre on a whim. As I can't use liquid foundation (rosacea and sensitive) and its amazing. I look smooth glowing and natural.
Can't rate it or recommend it enough.

Similar price to BM. A pot lasts forever.

House of Fraser stock it or buy online

It depends what kind of coverage you are after but Lancôme miracle air de teint is amazing stuff.

What moisturisers/serums are you using out of interest?

Blithereens · 05/06/2014 14:29

Ooh thanks MrsFlorrick, I might try that!

Thanks Steben, I will look that up! I am using Hydraluron serum and Astalift Day Cream in the morning (LOVE the Astalift, will use Hydraluron until it's finished then might try something else. Good but not earth-shattering) and at night Advanced Night Repair serum (love it) and Lush Skin's Shangri-La moisturiser which I am obsessed with. Beautiful smell, gorgeous texture. It is thick but I love it.

Have a google for the Wayne goss method. He is a make up artist and does powder then foundation for a dewy look.
I've never mastered it but a friend swears by it

JennyZ1 · 05/06/2014 14:52

Does it make you look orange after you wear it for a few hours? If so then your skin is oxidizing. many foundations do this. I have heard you can set it with cornstarch and it will not go to orange.

I used BM for years now I'm using Revlon colour stay and no 7 stay perfect,I was matched with the colour matching machine and it's a perfect match.

Blithereens · 05/06/2014 16:19

Oh Dame that sounds great, I must try that!

Jenny that's so interesting, I never heard that before!

Chop powder before foundation?? I must look this up.

Have you tried MAC's Face & Body foundation? It's very light and dewy on the skin but you can choose to build up coverage if you need.

Blithereens · 05/06/2014 16:40

Ooh no, something else to look into! My cousin has their highlighting lotion and pinky colour powder which are both lovely.

Brb....

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2014 17:19

Omg it works beautifully!

I've just wasted ages watching his videos-I think I love him! Going to try it with mineral foundation too as one of his videos instructed!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2014 17:58

I've just started a thread with that top tip!

OsloGin · 05/06/2014 19:03

Which astalift moisturiser are you using? I just spotted the brand in the local debenhams

Blithereens · 05/06/2014 21:10

I use the Replenishing Day Cream. I absolutely love it. I discovered it by accident with a free sample on a Boots order, but it's fab! On offer at Feel Unique and Gorgeous Shop at the mo :)

I'm a new convert to Caroline Hirons... I love her! I use La Roche Posay BB cream as a foundation. It's light, dewy and easy to apply but of course only gives light coverage.
