I have been invited on a corporate invitation to see Cirque du Soleil tonight, with DH (who will be in his suit, straight from the office). I am a SAHM who usually lives in jeans. Many people will have gone straight from the office (i.e. suits) but I'm not rocking up in a suit when I've not been in the office, iyswim. Equally jeans don't really seem right either.

Given the timing I am not going to be going shopping. But if anyone has any ideas they can illustrate with 'something like this' pictures I can raid my wardrobe.

I am 5'5 and size 8-10, if relevant....

Help! Please!

Slim fit trousers, nice top, blazer, heels? What have you got to work with in your wardrobe?!

pootlebug · 05/06/2014 13:48

Hmm, I figured people would say that. I don't possess the type of trousers you're suggesting, don't own a blazer, etc. I just never dress like that.

The only 'smart' clothes I have are dresses. But I don't want to look as though I'm going to a summer wedding either. Crap. I have a black Reiss dress or a DVF wrap dress both of which are definitely-not-summer-wedding, but I don't know if they're right either.

Jersey dress smartened up with a statement necklace?

nilbyname · 05/06/2014 13:55

DVF dress would be grey teamed with wedges and hair left down?

pootlebug · 05/06/2014 13:56

Hmm, that is possible. Now I am regretting not shopping but equally I really don't want to go and buy some clothes I'll never really wear again.

DVF?

pootlebug · 05/06/2014 13:58

Diane von Furstenberg - a silk wrap dress. It's a print but a relatively understated one.

Have you got shoes to go with the dress? Maybe a statement necklace?

ILoveWooly · 05/06/2014 14:03

Sorry I was meaning to type 'what DVF?' - nursing as I type.

I have 2 DVF's, one plain black but the other red bamboo (I stick out like a sore thumb when not in glorious sunshine!).

pootlebug · 05/06/2014 14:04

Yes I have shoes. Statement necklace is trickier but will rummage. Statement-ish earrings with my usual diamond pendant?

Dress is blue and white, geometric pattern.

Sounds lovely. If wearing hair down simple diamond studs and pendant would be ideal.

pootlebug · 05/06/2014 14:10

Hair is v short crop so not many choices there!

Statement necklace might be too much with the geometric print so statement ish earrings are a good compromise! The dress sounds lovely btw!

Thank you both. Think I am sorted. Now just need to tidy my house so babysitter doesn't see it in such a state, buy a birthday present for a friend's daughter who we're off to see for a birthday tea after the school run....

So I'd better dash! Thank you again Thanks
