I am going to the ballet with a client in a posh hotel soon, and have to wear 'formal'. I don't have much.

Is this dress from Monsoon formal enough?

DH's ever so helpful response: 'if you wear it in the day, it's a day dress. If you wear it in the evening, it's an evening dress, surely Confused '

I go to the ballet alot, including the Royal Opera House and usually tend to sit in the 'posh seats'. That could tend towards the more casual end of what (some) people wear, but it would be absolutely fine. The days when everyone dressed up for the ballet are over! Do you have some jewellery to dress it up with? Nice strappy sandals? Nice bag? Go a bit more 'evening' with your make up?

Once the curtain goes up, they tend to whack up the aircon to keep the dancers a bit cooler. Depending on where you are sitting, you may or may not notice this. A cardigan, large scarf or wrap might be a good idea in case you do get a bit chilly.

Have a lovely time! What are you going to see?
