Silly questions about cleansing

I am a new cleanser. Always previously used a facial wash and moisturiser but have recently decided I need to take more care of my skin. So I have bought a no7 cleanser, also no7 eye cream, serum and moisturiser. But, my questions are these, when using the cleanser, I am putting it on cotton wool then sweeping it over my face but in doing this, I find I am pulling my skin, especially round my eyes. I saw on Caroline Hirons website that she advises rinsing the cleanser off with warm water and a flannel, so I've done this, but this is also seems very harsh , rather than simply using a facial wash with my hands, which doesn't pull my skin at all. What am I doing wrong?? I want to make my skin better, not pull and scrub at it!

I'm not an expert but a tip I picked up from somewhere way back was to apply wipe off cleanser with your fingers - I think it warms it and helps it spread more easily. Then wipe off with cotton wool - I prefer the cotton wool pads, they are much gentler I find that raw cotton wool.

I apply the cleanser with my fingers too and then remove gently with a muslin cloth that I've put into warm water first.

apply the cleanser with your fingers, massage it into the skin, then use the cotton to sweep it off. applying it with the cotton will waste it.

Thanks, I'll try your suggestions
