Platform trainers

Do you think they're okay for someone over 40? I always struggle with the casual look and I'm short so definitely need the extra height, I was thinking these are not too bad? (I haven't worn trainers since I was 5!!)

Wrong. So wrong. Trainers are a casual sporty look, these are a bit odd.

I like them! (And over 40.)

Looking to replace my falling apart converse, so may look at these.

ScarlettlovesRhett · 01/06/2014 08:15

I love them. I've been waiting 20 years for platform trainers to make a comeback!

Concealed wedge trainers look good too, and are very comfy (not sure if they're still 'in' though.

IDugUpADiamond · 01/06/2014 08:18

Ooh! There's hope!!Smile

For those of you considering them, they're heavily reduced at www.mandmdirect.com/. Unfortunately they haven't got my size (5).

I'm 39 btw (just for age context) I borrow my 12 yr old boy's casual trainers often, those type of trainers are fine at any age and for casual wear - sports type trainers I would only wear for gym etc.

sillymillyb · 01/06/2014 08:21

Ooh I can dig out all my old platform buffaloes if these are coming back into fashion Grin

IDugUpADiamond · 01/06/2014 08:27

See as much as I want to like concealed wedge trainers (I assume you mean the high top ones) I think they look awful on. I don't know why they remind me of goats' hooves. I mean, not even Miranda Kerr can pull them off...

Thanks, IDugUp! Ordered.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/06/2014 13:23

Oh I saw the converse ones....

Generally for over 40 it depends. I wouldn't wear them but then I'm not a sporty type. Or trendy.

Some people could and would rock them though.

I love platform trainers. I'm a big advocate of wear what you like. I take full advantage of dress down day and I wear mine with skinny jeans and a band or geeky t-shirt. Mine are a bit crazy, I have a camo pair with gold laces and a pair of leopard print high tops. Really like the converse though in case I need to tone it down a bit. Grin

rideyourbike · 01/06/2014 20:08

Don't get me wrong, I love a converse hi top, but with a normal sole. Don't get the concealed heel thing at all, looks really weird to me.
