Any way to try out multiple lipsticks?

I'm trying to find a shade to match the one I previously used which has now seemingly been discontinued (although noone at Boots seems able to confirm this - they just tell me they have no way of knowing what products they're currently selling (it was a 17 one - toffee apple)).

I've been round loads of brands trying them out on the backs of my hands and my finger tips but I'd really like to try as many on as possible. Does anyone sell a palette with small quantities of many does anyone know?

A friend who was an Avon Rep had a pack of maybe 50 or 100 miniature lipsticks. Maybe only available to reps, not sure. That's the only thing I can think of.

Indie brands on etsy and elsewhere online often do samples of lipsticks.

I went to Lancome and the lady let me try lots of different lippies until I found the one I wanted. T'was nice sitting in the chair being pampered.

go to a mac store and try them out there?

I'd really like to try lots of different brands though and ideally at home where I can try them in different lights - I don't really like having a sales assistant hovering and talking to me while I'm trying to decide if it looks right or not. I might try etsy though!
