80s fashion help

I'm going to an 80s party in a few weeks time and need help. Even though I was a teen through the 80s, I'm not sure which look to go for. Should I go for the Laura Ashley pretty dress, white blouse over black skirt with loose belt, shoulder pads. I don't suit the Madonna look.

I've seen this top, and wondered whether to wear jeans and leg warmers.

I also not sure what to dress my reluctant teen in. He's not keen on dressing up, so any help on an inexpensive 80-ish fashion that's not too radical would be useful.

Thanks.

How old is your teen son? Could you stick him in just jeans and a t-shirt and suit jacket but with the sleeves rolled up? (Miami vice style) Smile Then he can just take off the jacket if he's uncomfortable.
Or maybe just ripped jeans and a white t-shirt?

I think I had a top just like the one you posted in the 80s. Smile I used to wear a massive wide belt around the middle of it though, huge plastic hoop earrings, big hair and jeans or leggings I think.

I have two boys, aged 14 and 12. The youngest I think will be more willing. I like the Miami vice idea ( off to google pictures!)

Unfortunately, I have fairly short hair at the moment ( I always had perms during the 80s)

Yy to laura ashley look everyone will be in legwarmer you will need one of those headbands to complete the look - the solid ones not the sporty ones iykwim

I had a couple of bad perms myself in the 80s. Every now and then I actually miss them for some bizarre reason.
If you have short hair could you slick it back with gel and wear a bright lipstick. Like the girls in the Robert Palmer addicted to love video?

batwing dress with shoulder pads? batwing jumpsuit.. I have these two gems in my wardrobe for these events Wink. Your sons could wear skinny jeans, white shirt and a skinny tie, or a pair of flourescent socks etc

I'm amazed at how much some of the items are selling on Ebay. I wish I'd kept my teenage wardrobe now!

Laura Ashley is more 70s than80s

Deverethemuzzler · 01/06/2014 17:34

I was swathed in Lycra for most of the 80s.
Bright red lippy and high heels.

Your boy could go for the Bros look. Those jeans are all over the place ATM
White teeshirt with rolled sleeves and a belt .
