I have always used them before and washed my face in the mornings but have heard they are not good for your skin. If that were the case though would they sell as well as they do?

Yes!

EyelinerQueen · 31/05/2014 13:55

I do. These ones.

I keep reading that they're bad for your skin but they work for mine so I'm sticking with it. I've tried hot cloth/cleansing balms/all the other expensive gimmicks and they don't get my face as clean (most of them don't even begin to remove eye makeup).

I take all my makeup off with the wipes and then cleanse with a La Roche Posay gel cleanser. My skin is fantastic.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 31/05/2014 13:58

Yes, I use the simple ones every night. I don't cleanse in the morning, I just splash water on my face.

I think that as long as they take all the make up off your face, they must be ok. I don't wear masses of make up, and they work fine for me. Properly cleansing, no reactions or breakouts.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 31/05/2014 13:59

l'oreal skin perfection nourishing wipes for me - the pink ones. More moisturising than most, I do find many other ones a bit harsh/wet.

citygirl1961 · 31/05/2014 14:20

Thanks for your replies, do you find they remove eye make up OK, I do find I get panda eyes with wipes, I wear black pencil eyeliner. Wipes are much quicker and more convenient and more hygienic than muslin cloths and balms.

I don't see how a wipe is more hygienic than a clean flannel/muslin?

They sell as well as they do because they require minimum effort.

I suppose they're handy if you're at a festival or something but I find they dry my skin out and don't cleanse properly. Also they're so wasteful in environmental terms.

Best thing I did for my skin was ditching wipes.

Bakersbum · 31/05/2014 14:43

I used to for years but then found I was getting very bumpy skin, I was recommended hot cloth cleansing on here. Now I use a wipe to remove make up, then cleanse and use a hot muslin, the amount of make up and dirt that comes off, is astonishing. Especially as previously I wouldn't have done anything else after the wipe stage. Skin is much better now.

Caterina99 · 31/05/2014 15:09

Personally I break out if I use them too much, but I do have very sensitive skin.

They are so easy to use though, so I keep a packet for travelling etc if it's only going to be a day or two. Much easier than dragging round cleanser and flannels.

merlotguzzler · 31/05/2014 15:16

I use Simple ones, cos they don't contain alcohol and are good at removing all eye make up, without being harsh. Whenever I run out and have to make do with another brand, I can tell a difference. My skin looks and feels dryer. I know that beauty 'experts' will tell you not to ever use them, under any circumstances, but they work well for me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/05/2014 17:17

No way, far to drying to use every day, good for travel but that's it!

mousmous · 31/05/2014 17:28

no, my skin doesn't feel clean when using wipes and I use a flannel after to wash.
loo paper + moisturiser to remove mascara and soap and flannel for the rest. better for my skin and the environment and much cheaper as well.

merlotguzzler · 31/05/2014 17:36

Loo paper?! Confused

Fairylea · 31/05/2014 17:37

I use the blue Johnsons ones but I use a face wash afterwards otherwise I feel like my face isn't really clean.

mousmous · 31/05/2014 17:47

yes, I put some moistiriser on loo paper. I guess I could use cotton pads or something but loo paper is working just fine.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/05/2014 17:51

Muslin cloths are hygienic if you use them once then wash them. Plus the cloths are mildly exfoliating, I haven't used a face mask since I used cloths, though I do use some Soap & Glory Scrub Atomic from time to time.

DD uses wipes if she's having a 'play' with make-up, but takes it all off at the end with cleanser. (or else her pillows end up wearing it) Hmm

killedanotherthread · 31/05/2014 17:55

If you're washing cloths after every use then how can they be more environmentally friendly? Washing uses energy and water and puts pollutants into the water system which need to be removed, etc. I suspect it's six of one and half a dozen of the other in the environmental stakes.

squoosh · 31/05/2014 18:00

I have tons of flannels, each week I chuck the ones I've used during the week in with an ordinary wash. I doubt people are putting a special wash on for a single cloth!

Face wipes are clogging up the sewers and are hugely wasteful in environmental terms.

MyrtleDove · 31/05/2014 18:13

You just put the flannel/muslin in your washing basket and wash them whenever you next do a wash - adding a few flannels to the load isn't going to make a big difference. Face wipes however take ages to break down. I will use face wipes but prefer not to. My problem is that I can't hot cloth cleanse as I find using water too drying.

Soap and water is awfully drying and harsh on skin.

kerstina · 31/05/2014 18:21

I used them for years too liked the L'oreal age perfect ones didn't seem to dry my skin out but I discovered L'oreal miracle 15 sec cleaning oil which I love. Gets rid of make up quick and feels moisturising. Also a lot cheaper than wipes. Am sure someone will be a long to tell me how bad it is for my skin.

SuperFlyHigh · 31/05/2014 18:45

I used to use cleanser and toner (combined or separate) then I graduated to clarins orange oil (which is cleanse and tone I think) now garnier micellar water which also removes eye makeup.

Have to say I do use wipes sometimes but rare and my skin looks and feels better when I properly cleanse. Takes 1 minute if that.

stardusty5 · 31/05/2014 19:28

I've just bought some new flannels this week as i was sick of getting make up on the towels. I used to use them all the time at my parents house but never got round to buying my own.

My face feels much cleaner after using a flannel and cleanser. I use simple eye make up remover if i need to.

Hoping to try a cleansing balm soon.
