What do you cleanse your face with?

I'm in a rut with cleansing my skin and it's looking a bit lacklustre.

I usually use the 'Ocean Salt' cleanser from lush which seemed to work well and made my skin feel good, but they'd ran out today and I can't get to a lush for a while. I would like to try some others cleansers or other methods, anyway.

I'm willing to spend but if it happens to be cheap, bonus!

Thanks :)

Have you tried a hot cloth cleanser? Liz earle is the obvious one but no 7 do a cheaper alternative which is just as good ( which is even cheaper with one of their vouchers). Since hot cloth cleansing I haven't looked back x

HappyGirlNow · 29/05/2014 21:10

Simple Exfoliating Wipes.. I love them, my skin is really soft..

daisydaisys · 29/05/2014 21:13

On the really expensive end: Emma Hardie cleansing balm is amazing - but I think a lot of people would quite rightly not want to spend £35 on a cleanser! Cheaper end (although still not 'cheap') I would say Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser is really good, it's £23 at LookFantastic which often does 10% discounts - so you could probably get it at around the £20 mark.

I think in general though that getting hold of a balm cleanser would be the best way to make 'lacklustre' skin look a bit more radiant. I think just the process of massaging a balm into your skin can get the microcirculation going in a way that you just can't do with a face wash (although you could always use a facial oil after a normal face wash and just take time to massage it in...)

I'm intrigued to hear other people's thoughts on better priced cleansing balms - any ideas?

rockybalboa · 29/05/2014 21:14

Micellar water. Amazing stuff. Used to use Liz Earle hot cloth and still love it but the tap in our en suite takes ages to run hot so I get bored of waiting and just use micellar water and a cotton wool pad.

littlegreengloworm · 29/05/2014 21:15

I have peaches and clean t my favourite is dermalogica pre cleanse and fruitalia from yonka.

I just actually need to use them and not a fresh baby wipe after doing babies nappy at night! Hmm

daisydee43 · 29/05/2014 21:16

I use a 3 in 1 cleaning wipe and then bb cream - really lazy and effective and use a bit of Nivea (the blue tin) if I'm in the mood. Tinted Vaseline to complete the look Smile

Sunflower49 · 29/05/2014 21:26

:) thank you, for all the replies!

I've used a something vie? Hot cloth cleanser before but a long time ago, and my skin was a lot better back then anyway, you may be right and that's what I need again.

I'm tempted to spend and go for Emma Hardie one, just to see if It's worth the tag, just once!

I do try to massage my skin when moisturising. This is the first time I've 'fallen out' with my skin,It's always been really very good :(

Never heard of Miceller water-going to google that now!And all the others, thanks everyone

:D gloworm babywipe-I have done that myself enough times!Glad you clarified a FRESH one!

Always a balm, sometimes double cleanse, then I acid tone, serum and moisturiser
Ones at the moment I have
Una brennan neroli pre cleanse
RMS coconut
Clinique take the day off (good value, no scent, lasts ages)
Sanctuary hot cloth cleanser
Balmology - if money was no object I would use this forever, it smells incredible but is about £22 for 50g

Mumelie · 29/05/2014 22:07

I rate Clinique take the day off balm. Really does remove everything including waterproof mascara! But is very gentle on the skin. I have acne breakouts and psoriasis and find it does not irritate either.

ThisBitchIsResting · 29/05/2014 22:09

I love Peaches and Clean.

Feeling flush I'd get Shu Uemura cleansing oil.

CointreauVersial · 29/05/2014 22:18

Water.

Raia · 29/05/2014 22:28

Another vote for micellar water here - so easy and leaves my skin properly clean Smile

BADbadleroybr0wn · 29/05/2014 22:36

I have dry/combination skin and use Nivea face wash the gel one which cleans well, smells nice and gets rid of all my make up. For those of you that rate hot cloth cleansers - will they take make up off as well? Or does that then become a separate job? Thanks Smile

Blithereens · 29/05/2014 22:36

Ocean salt is a bit harsh for every day (ex Lush Employee here!) so try hot cloth (I use superdrug radiance) and an exfoliating toner, then Ocean salt a few times a week.

Raskova · 29/05/2014 22:40

You all sound really posh Blush

I use clean and clear deep cleansing lotion. It's great. Leaves my skin feeling super soft and looking younger. I think that's because it burns your top layer of skin off

mswibble · 29/05/2014 22:46

Im using Astral at the moment. Apply it like a cold cream cleanser and remove with a hot flannel. Leaves my skin gorgeously smooth and glowy but I think its too much for my t-zone. My cheeks are ridiculously dry but my t zone is like an oil slick. I may try the Ocean scrub from Lush a few times a week. I love Big shampoo and Rub Dub Dub shower scrub so sounds right up my street.

ThisBitchIsResting · 29/05/2014 22:55

Cointreau do you not wear makeup? If so do you use a makeup remover then water? Baffled. I double cleanse with the same cleanser to remove makeup and wash face properly. I would be a spotty oil slick with flakes of skin and lumps of foundation all over my face if I only used water.

Blithereens · 29/05/2014 23:11

Grin Raskova I was using baby wipes until I got advice on here! I used to use all Lush stuff when I worked there but had fallen out of the habit, although always kept using their shower gels and body lotion. Loving hot cloth cleansing and have gone back to Lush moisturisers too!

Ponks · 29/05/2014 23:33

Eve lom hot cloth cleanser. ££ unfortunately but you only use a tiny amount so it lasts ages. And you can get small trial sizes. I never got on with the Liz Earle version.

goodasitgets · 29/05/2014 23:45

Not posh at all Grin
Just a beauty junkie

LaTrucha · 30/05/2014 08:22

I have just started cleaning my face with almond oil. Rub it in, take it off with an old baby muslin. My face is soft and my skin is calm and happy as it hasn't been in, well, ever. I think I am hooked.

Good for sensitive skin like mine.

buttercrumble · 30/05/2014 08:29

Good old soap and water here Smile

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 30/05/2014 08:36

I use a simple wipes for removing my makeup, then Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser.

Neverendingnemo · 30/05/2014 09:29

OCM. my skin has never been better

jimmybim · 30/05/2014 09:36

Eve Lom cleanser - expensive but worth it.
