What do you cleanse your face with?

I'm in a rut with cleansing my skin and it's looking a bit lacklustre.

I usually use the 'Ocean Salt' cleanser from lush which seemed to work well and made my skin feel good, but they'd ran out today and I can't get to a lush for a while. I would like to try some others cleansers or other methods, anyway.

I'm willing to spend but if it happens to be cheap, bonus!

Thanks :)

Avene cold cream cleanser in the tube.

I didn't realise it was meant for the body when I first started using it, and I like it, so am sticking to it.
8 quid, huge tube, lasts a year.

Funnily enough I have very sensitive skin.

And not they have repackaged it and on the front it says for the body with big letters .

Double cleanse to remove make up -
Body Shop chamomile oil - removed with flannel then No 7 melting gel.

If skin needs exfoliating I will use the oil then Peaches and Clean (S&G) with No7 battery powered brush (fake clarisonic)

I use the No 7 melting gel in the morning then tone with distilled witch hazel or La Roche Posay exfoliating micro astringent toner.

SuperFlyHigh · 30/05/2014 11:22

Peaches and Clean in morning - Garnier Micellar Water for makeup with cotton wool in evening.

but am using up Neutrogena wash/mask combined before I buy more Peaches and Clean! rarity for me!

callamia · 30/05/2014 11:36

Avene cold cream gel most days, and some days Una Brennan vitamin C oil. My over-hormonal skin could definitely be improved though, so I'm looking for better ideas here.

revolutionarytoad · 30/05/2014 11:51

Neutrogena blackhead remover- twice daily (if in a disciplined phase- that's the only way it works for me), and Avene cleanance in the morning and Eucerin dermopurifier in the evening.

The lotions probably do nothing much, but I got the last two with a discount, def wouldn't bother if I were paying full price! They feel so nice to put on.

I have v. mild dermititis (delightful yup) and feel all yucky if I don't exfoliate regularly, but doing it with a hot cloth just makes my skin revolt and go all dry and patchy.

God- people with perfect swishy hair and peachy skin, they're so lucky!

Suzannewithaplan · 30/05/2014 12:08

hot water and a flannel, tres cheap.
Olive oil for eye make up

SnapeAndLily · 30/05/2014 12:09

Just started using Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser after getting a sample in my Birchbox. My skin feels really soft after using it.

Chopsypie · 30/05/2014 12:11

I've recently switched to OCM and my skin it better than it has been in years. No more oily nose, my make up doesn't slide off and the milk spots under my eyes have finally gone!

bigbuttons · 30/05/2014 12:15

oil, cleansing balm, or honey. The honey is the best tbh.

McFox · 30/05/2014 12:20

Almond oil removed with a hit cloth here too. My skin is always complimented Smile

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 30/05/2014 12:25

peaches and clean by soap and glory in the shower in the morning and then oil of olay anti wrinkle face wash in the evening after a bath/shower. I use this like I would a hot cloth cleanser one, so rub onto damp skin, then rinse clean flannel under hot tap, place over my face for a few seconds then remove the wash in circular action, rinsing the flannel as I go, then final pat to the face with the flannel rinsed in cold water, then currently use n-spa night cream.

My dry tired looking skin is much smoother and plumper and brighter looking.

I have been recommended the superdrug vitamin e range though by the beautician that I visit for monthly facials, eyebrows etc, so will pop in tomorrow and look at it all.

MisguidedAngel · 30/05/2014 12:26

I have used Johnson's baby lotion ever since I had babies (a long time ago). My skin is very dry and I never use soap.

ElleJameson · 30/05/2014 13:06

The simple range does the trick for me!

Fairylea · 30/05/2014 13:16

I take my make up off with Johnsons wipes - the blue pack. I then use garnier deep pore wash afterwards to remove the residue. In the morning I use St ives scrub and then the garnier wash again. I never use creams of any kind. I am nearly 35 and my skin is still very oily so I just don't bother.

I worked for clinique and chanel for 15 years and tried just about every product out there but have always gone back to this routine even when I had 65% discount!

ThisBitchIsResting · 30/05/2014 15:04

Fairy lea your routine sounds very harsh! And no moisturiser? It sounds like you're stripping all the natural oils from your skin and it's overcompensating. My skin used to be oily when I used Nutrogena scrub twice a day - now I treat it much more gently with a gentle twice daily cleanse and moisturise it's much more balanced. You say it works for you, but if your skin is oily and you're not using moisturiser, it doesn't sound great tbh.

Fairylea · 30/05/2014 15:08

I understand what you're saying and honestly I've tried using oil free moisturiser / normal creams etc but it just brings me out in huge spots. So I'm better without. If I use less harsh cleansers it's spots again. I wish I could use creams etc but they really just don't agree with me at all. Having done all the beauty training etc I know they say to use creams otherwise you over stimulate the oil glands etc but it just doesn't seem to be true for me.

Sunflower49 · 30/05/2014 15:22

So many wonderful replies,thank you!
I've heard of using oils, coconut or almond as a cleanser with a hot cloth-for now I'm going to do that until I make a decision on which of the recommended I am going to try.

Thank you for the inside info about Lush Ocean Salt...I love the 'scrubbed' feeling but I guess it could be too harsh on my skin.

I would also recommend Eve Lom. I used to use Liz Eale hot cloth cleanser but I am now well and truly converted to Eve Lom. It smells gorgeous and leaves your skin clean and soft. It is expensive but I don't need toner after it, I use less moisturiser and a 100ml tub will last me 5 or 6 months.

merce · 30/05/2014 15:29

I find the Micellar water doesn't really take make-up/grime off. Cotton pad comes away alarmingly white. Am I right in thinking there are various different makes (and micellar is the generic term rather than the make)? If so - are there any that actually take make-up off without having to rub like mad?

merce · 30/05/2014 15:29

Have lots of washes I love (like the Dermalogica one), but would love to have one I could use at night with cotton pad when feeling too lazy to lather/rinse blah blah (hugely idle….)

LizzieVereker · 30/05/2014 15:31

Following some advice on here, I've just discovered Rodial Glamtox cleansing wash - you massage it in and then as you rinse it it acts as a toner. It's amazing - for the first time in 20 years I don't have a blackheady nose! The 5 minute facial is good too.

MILfreetoagoodhome · 30/05/2014 15:33

water and a flannel and some elbow grease Grin all these expensive cleaners are nonsense and they bring my skin out in acne and rashes and dryness etc. all skin needs is water for hydration thats the key to staying wrinkle free for as long as possible imho.

WitchWay · 30/05/2014 15:55

I use soap & water mostly (Dove or l'Occitane almond milk), sometimes Clinique 7 day scrub in the mornings & sometimes Clinique wash-off foam cleanser at bedtime, usually if I'm wearing quite a bit of makeup.

CointreauVersial · 30/05/2014 17:07

Pleased to see I'm not the only "water" user here!

I don't wear much makeup, just some mineral powder, mascara and lippy. I really can't see the point of stripping all the oils from your skin, and then replacing them, so I find plain water and a face flannel do the job perfectly without harsh drying. Removes the dirt but not the natural oils.

(I do sometimes use an eye makeup remover lotion if I've been for a night out and used eye shadow / liner).

I'm 47, and have always had pretty good skin, never get any dry patches, spots or irritation maybe it's the water, or maybe just luck.

goodasitgets · 30/05/2014 17:09

Merce - go for any kind of creamy lotion, or anything labelled cleansing milk
