What do you cleanse your face with?

I'm in a rut with cleansing my skin and it's looking a bit lacklustre.

I usually use the 'Ocean Salt' cleanser from lush which seemed to work well and made my skin feel good, but they'd ran out today and I can't get to a lush for a while. I would like to try some others cleansers or other methods, anyway.

I'm willing to spend but if it happens to be cheap, bonus!

Thanks :)

I've recently started chucking some bio oil on a hot flannel and scrubbing cleansing my face with that. Working well so far as my problem is most wet cleansers dry my skin out too much.

I rate Clinique take the day off balm. Really does remove everything including waterproof mascara! But is very gentle on the skin. I have acne breakouts and psoriasis and find it does not irritate either.

Liz earle for me I love it

laracroft2001 · 30/05/2014 22:13

Givenchy one minute glow cleansing powder. Love love love it.

And then I use the LOREAL £5 version of Lancôme Bifical for eye make up removing

MyrtleDove · 30/05/2014 22:27

I use a basic cream cleanser wiped off with cotton wool. I find that using water dries it out. If I'm feeling lazy I use Superdrug unfragranced cleansing wipes - the gentlest and least-drying wipes I've found so far.

Givenchy cleansing powder - how does this work, what is it like, how do you use it???

laracroft2001 · 01/06/2014 06:56

Hi WildBill

It's literally a fine powder. Shake the bottle, put a little amount in your hands and mix with water. It froths up and is a face wash. It's gentle enough to use every day. I generally use it in the shower and my skin just feels so clean after it.

I'm on phone so can't do link. It's not the cheapest product, but I've had mine since January and still have half left!!

springbabydays · 01/06/2014 07:03

So if you use oil to cleanse, does that mean you don't need to moisturise?

Glitterfeet · 01/06/2014 07:43

I use Soal and Glory Ultimelt hot cloth cleanser after a day at work, when I would be wearing make up.

Then their peaches n cream on other occasions. The hot cloth none doesn't dry my skin out half as much as others I've tried but still put on moisturizer.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/06/2014 08:47

Nivea or Garnier micellar water. Fantastic stuff. Tons better than ocm for my sensitive skin.

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 08:51

Mi cellar water here too much less harsh than hot cleanser for every day.i do a hot cloth eve lom deep cleanse once a week.

Chopsypie · 01/06/2014 09:08

Spring baby - I don't use a moisturiser at all with oil cleansing.
That was one of the reasons I switched, I had a very oily nose and chin and a very dry forehead and cheeks. I was constantly struggling to find something light enough for the oily bits and heavy enough for yr dry bits without using two products.

The first week of oil cleansing my skin broke out, but then settled and has been lovely since.

The science behind it looks pretty sound, although I'm no scientist! It's working for me though

springbabydays · 01/06/2014 10:01

Sounds good to me! I'm all for saving time as well as money Smile

LaTrucha · 01/06/2014 11:15

I found micellar water set off my sensitive skin after a while, so I changed to OCM. Sorry. Not very helpful!

HarrySnotter · 01/06/2014 13:00

Garnier Millicer water here. Makes my skin feel really fresh and clean and I have quite sensitive skin.

Fairylea · 01/06/2014 19:55

I went out and brought the garnier m water thingy today and I'm very disappointed. I needed loads of it to get all my make up off especially my eye make up. Either it's not very good or I wear too much make up..... oh dear.

merce · 01/06/2014 20:10

That's what I found with the M waters. Cotton pad came away clean - muck/make-up stayed on face. And I really don't wear much…. We must be doing something wrong!

SwedishEdith · 01/06/2014 20:14

I'll use anything that's on offer to clean my face but I'm currently using Palmers cocoa butter body oil and it's very nice - and cheap

Suzannewithaplan · 02/06/2014 01:34

over cleaning your skin can disturb the skin
microbiota and thereby lead to skin problems

VenusDeWillendorf · 02/06/2014 01:47

I have oily, sensitive skin, I use make up everyday, so I use Garnier micellar water on two cotton pads, one for eyes and one for face, followed with a warm water rinse and clinique number 3 toner.

Takes off all make up, and the toner exfoliates gently after that with salicylic acid. My skin is pretty fab for my age - no wrinkles.

CluelessCrapParent · 02/06/2014 04:05

Night time I use Neal's yard wild rose beauty balm as cleanser.

Morning I put on Dermalogica dermal clay cleanser. Then wash off in the shower followed by Aveda tourmaline charged cleanser.

I swear by this routine now and have not changed for ages.

CluelessCrapParent · 02/06/2014 04:10

How do you use microarray water?

On its own?
As a make up remover followed by cleansing?
Like a toner?

Am intrigued.

CluelessCrapParent · 02/06/2014 04:11

Micellar not microarray

singaporeswing · 02/06/2014 07:16

Clueless I use it as a make up remover with cotton wool.

I then use a cleanser afterwards - either Emma Hardie or Alpha H.

Bunbaker · 02/06/2014 07:31

"I really can't see the point of stripping all the oils from your skin"

A good cleanser shouldn't do that. Just water doesn't remove all makeup, not that I wear much. I am a fairly recent convert to the hot cloth cleansing method and use the Superdrug Naturally Radiant hot cloth cleanser which is just as good as the Liz Earle. I then wash my face using the Bodyshop vitamin E facial cleansing bar as it doesn't dry my skin.

I always wear moisturiser and change brands regularly as I don't have sensitive skin.

I am 55 and look younger.
