help needed with bridesmaid's dress please

My sister is getting married in the summer. I am matron of honour, my niece is bridesmaid. All that my sister asks is that we both wear purple - we don't have to wear the same style of dress.

I have my dress, courtesy of MNetters - its the first image below (you only need to see the colour)
My niece wants something more formal, as she can then wear it to her university ball. The second image is a style that suits her, but they didn't have it in purple in her size.

Sooo - any ideas for a dress that would go with mine in colour (doesn't have to be the same colour, but has to be a shade of the right purple, iyswim) ? My sister will be eternally grateful.

Purple is a tricky color to get the shade right. You and DN might need to trawl around shops with your dress to get it right. If you both have very different shades of purple it is likely to look a mess.

I know! Wail! She is at uni and doing exams - no time to trawl shops

Could she go lilac to your purple? Then if the shades were not exactly right it wouldn't be so obvious.

Where is your dress from?

MrsLettuce · 28/05/2014 22:16

A very different fabric type would help disguise shade mistakes too. The fabric of your dress looks very matte from here, is that right?

Can't work out what's happening at the top of DNs dress is it spaghetti straps?

MrsLettuce · 28/05/2014 22:16

Sorry, a clue on budget would be handy too.

SunnyL · 28/05/2014 22:21

Can you try Desy? I think you can order samples of the fabric. Would allow your niece to pick the style and you can have a choice of lots of colours to try to match.

?

lirael · 28/05/2014 22:51

Thanks so much - have forwarded all suggestions to my sister. My dress is from Coast and yes, fabric is matte. DN's dress has wider straps than spaghetti

The Biba dress is very similar to the one in the photo - will send it on. Thanks!

Aaaargh - the saga continues. All the dresses linked to above have sold out. Dessy need longer to sort than we've got (one month). My sister texted me today to ask if I'd mind wearing something different, but I've missed the returns period for the Coast dress and neither of us feel like throwing £135 away.

I think we need to go lilac for my niece - the purple of my dress is too hard to match. It can be any style, short or long, size 10 (though she can get into an 8 in some styles). We think the fabric needs to be matte, or it will look weird against mine. I have searched high and low - EVERYTHING is sold out! My niece only has two Saturdays free between now and the wedding, one of which I cannot do. (She is at uni)

A monsoon of gratefulness will come the way of anyone who can help. We are all aware we have left things far too late.
