Please help finding me a smart summer dress.

After another two years or so of lurking indoors I seem to have three occasions to wear a nice dress in the next two months. I have today depressed myself by going round and round the Bullring poking at dresses in a bewildered fashion, the few I tried on made me look like mutton (when did dresses get so SHORT?) and I need some help..

The dress code for one is "smart casual" but it is awards ceremony so expect people to make the effort. The other two I'll be presenting something so again want to look sharp but please god not mumsy/businessy.

I'm 39, Size 12, decent legs, about 5' 7", fairly hourglassy. Suit fitted shapes but don't suit flarey skirts. Upper arms need covering really.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, no idea what brands to even look at these days. Thanks Grin

It's fine if no-one likes it - I can buy six when it's reduced to thruppence.Grin

that cos dress...

I mean I like the odd cos thing but that is a very odd cos thing.

Once more unto the breach.. or something. The back again.

I don't seem to be finding anything pretty and summery.

Grin That Cos dress is growing on me. The pink Ted Baker dress is gorgeous.

I am liking the black simple slouchy dresses more than the florals I think. I have to really like the print to wear a print although that Oasis one is nice.

Thank you!

Just bought this in navy, short sleeves, not too short a skirt.

J Crew?

HermioneWeasley · 29/05/2014 22:01

chewbecca I recommended the Mary Portas dress. Nobody has ever bought anything from my recommendation before. I feel a huge sense of responsibility now.....

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 29/05/2014 22:24

Hermione All the unbearably cool, stylish people are compelled to buy from my recommendations...

I just sit and wait for the breathless gratitude and photos.

Chewbecca · 29/05/2014 22:52

Hermione congratulations!
it hasn't arrived yet, am thinking tomorrow..... The anticipation continues

If they are for work related functions, these 2 work well as the zips provide a bit of detail.
navy
black & white

Argh, I knew I shouldn't have clicked onto this thread - lots of very tempting dresses. I have a "cocktail dress" occasion coming up, and everything I have is too wintery, or too short to be worn with bare legs.

The pink Ted Baker one is stunning; also the jade lace one from HoF.

But I can't justify a new dress......can I?
