neutral foundation

I am really struggling to find foundation that looks halfway decent on me. My problem is that I am pale but neutral-toned - most of the pale foundations are far too yellow on me. Nars Siberia for example looks almost too dark on me because the yellowness looks so off. My closest matches so far have been Korean BB creams (because my skin is neutral it often can have that greyish tone to it that East Asian skin can have) but I'd really like a foundation that I don't have to order from Korea!

For clarity's sake - the palest No7 foundation shade (Calico) is OK on me but too dark. Palest Bourjois and Nars too yellow. Palest Autograph too pink.

Have you tried the new bourjois cc cream in its palest?
I've got it & it's great

MyrtleDove · 28/05/2014 19:49

Too yellow, sorry. All Bourjois is too yellow. GOSH BB/CC cream is good but the tubes are so tiny it feels a bit of a rip-off.

I'm like you- Boots No 7 calico is too dark but I also find it quite pink/ grey toned.

Have you tried NARS Mont Blanc which is supposedly the pinkier shade? I have NARS Gobi and it's quite yellow- can just about get away with it, but I haven't finished the bottle.

Best shades I've found for me is Bobbi Brown Porcelain but be warned that some of the foundations vary in the same shade- their Skin Foundation comes up paler and I find Porcelain almost as pale as Alabaster.

You might also like to look at Lancome- some of their foundations come up in 07 and 005 which are paler than 01.

Lazysummerdays · 28/05/2014 20:42

Just out of interest I looked at the Nars website; looks as if they have drastically reduced the shades in Sheer Glow down to 8!
They have a new cream compact foundation in all the 'old' shades.
Have you tried Deauville which is supposed to be neutral or would it be too dark?

ThePerfectNegroni · 28/05/2014 20:46

Have you looked at Makeup For Ever- either face and body (20) or HD (110 or 118)? All the shades mentioned about have beige undertones.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 20:48

Have you tried Bare Minerals? I have a very odd complexion and they sorted me out. Not saying your complexion is odd you understand... Blush

Milmingebag · 28/05/2014 20:48

Go to MAC and have them identify your skintone. From there you can use the foundation matrix to identify other brands that do your shade.

Have you tried Revlon Colorstay?

MyrtleDove · 28/05/2014 21:04

Lazy I must admit to not having a proper look at the Nars shades when I tested them (took an antihistamine on an empty stomach which made me incredibly sleepy!) but will have a look at Mont Blanc and Deauville. I just knew Siberia was the palest as best friend wears that, although the concealer in Chantilly is the best match for her skin - she's like a magnolia painted wall in terms of skin colour Grin Will have a look at Bobbi Brown and Lancome. No7 Calico was actually pretty good on me, only a tiny bit too dark and with blending would probably be fine, but unfortunately it oxidised really badly. I was fine in store and then orange by the time I got home Hmm

ThePerfect I'd really like something I can test in person, to test longevity, oxidising etc. No stockists anywhere near me unfortunately.

Bit haha I think my complexion is pretty odd! It's certainly not the norm in white women I don't think. I did try mineral makeup before but I have dry skin and unsure of how it would turn out - but I will find a Bare Minerals counter and have a go.

Mil I haven't tried Revlon Colorstay, will test them out, and also go to a MAC counter.

Lancome shade 010 is neutral. I uses Teint Idole or teint Miracle.

PinkandTwinkly · 29/05/2014 08:59

Can't really help, i also get best results from Korea BB creams. I use Skin79 Gold.

The only high street foundation i ever use is the Max Factor Colour Adapt in the palest shade.

MyrtleDove · 29/05/2014 15:11

I also get best results from Skin79 Gold, funnily enough! Mind you I still have a sample of Skin 79 Orange to try. Missha Perfect Cover in the palest shade is a bit too matte and chalky looking but accurate wrt colour. I just hate having to order from Korea, even if they are very reasonably priced.

Hmmm. I wear missha perfect cover, and the palest urban decay naked liquid shade works on me. I also wear illamasqua skin base if that helps at all
I would definitely say the urban decay one is not yellow at all

goodasitgets · 29/05/2014 19:44

Here's a pic to show
Nars Siberia glow next to urban decay naked skin (shade is 0.5)

neutral foundation
MyrtleDove · 29/05/2014 20:35

Hmm that looks beige enough but it looks quite dark?

OP posts:
goodasitgets · 29/05/2014 20:55

It seems to be lighter than it looks. Maybe test it out in debenhams if you have one nearby?
MAC is too dark for me as are most high street foundations. Am v pale redhead!
Soap and glory did one called fairest of them all which looked good. Or dainty doll?

goodasitgets · 29/05/2014 20:58

Ooh this is a good article on it

goodasitgets · 29/05/2014 21:07

Sorry for multiple posts Blush
I know what you mean about the oxidising, neither UD or illamasqua do this on me
I have an almay foundation too, in fact I have four bottles so if you want a full bottle just PM me, it's called nearly naked foundation and colour is ivory

MyrtleDove · 29/05/2014 23:23

I will have a hunt for UD and Illamasqua counters and test away!

I also have the issue of having a neck which is one to two shades darker than my face Hmm WHY do I have a weird dark neck??

OP posts:
misskelly · 30/05/2014 00:10

I'm neutral skin toned and very fair and have found most foundations too yellow or too pink, even the ones at MAC. I'm currently using Estee Lauder double wear because they do a neutral tone, think I am 1N1. I also like the Rimmel 25hour foundation and it is just as long wearing as the Estee Lauder for a fraction of the price.

MyrtleDove · 30/05/2014 01:32

Hmm Rimmel is usually orange on me but will give it a swatch. I don't need anything as heavy as EL Double Wear but will try their shades just so I have something to compare things with.

OP posts:
Justgotosleepnow · 30/05/2014 16:19

Myrtle I'm the opposite & my neck is much paler than my face. I'm using non sparkly bronzer now to shade it. I look much more together now, it's great, but a hassle.

Chipstick10 · 30/05/2014 18:49

Double wear light in 1.0 is neutral. It's too neutral for me it's not yellow enough

Lazysummerdays · 30/05/2014 19:33

Deffo try Bobbi Brown in Alabaster and Porcelain.
